Happy Spring!
Vermont is in full bloom and I can't help but smile as I drive through town and see the abundant lilacs and trees in bloom - absolutely beautiful! Our garden is growing (the weeds too) and we find ourselves out there for a bit almost every day tracking progress and keeping things where they should be. I joked with my Dad that gardening is a bit like going into battle - you're constantly keeping things in their place so they don't spread everywhere. Right now I have to decide whether to surrender or wage war against some particularly abundant violets that are at risk of taking over.
Two weekends ago we built 4 raised vegetable beds and filled them with dirt and compost (Michelle Obama arms here I come!!) but we haven't planted yet....perhaps this weekend. Our seeds came yesterday from High Mowing Seed Comapny and I'm looking forward to getting started. We ordered Beans, Haricot Verts, Pickling Cucumbers, an assortment of lettuce greens, a few types of tomatoes, and basil. In addition we also got some seeds for annuals - I better plant them before the weeds take over! Last year the woman we bought our house from had planted zinnias and they were just lovely - such great cutting flowers and a wonderful pop of color around the house. This year we're adding cosmos, snapdragons, and sweet peas to the mix.
This weekend also marks my final free weekend before the wedding season gets underway - it's nice to have time off but by this time of year I'm ready to head back to the action!
Enjoy the news below and be well!
