KHM Feeds the Hungry

28MAY2014 is our next turn to feed the homeless and needy of Columbia County. If you like to cook, join us at 9:30 am to chop, saute and do all that fun stuff. We pack the lunch boxes at 11:15 am and we leave KHM at 11:40 for delivery downtown. While downtown, we not only pass out the food, but visit with the clients, providing social contact to many who are not always well received by society. Join in wherever you feel led.

After our 'delivery guys' return, we'll have lunch together. Great fun, food and fellowship! What's keeping you?? C'mon down!

NEW MOON EXPECTED

On either Erev Shabbat evening or Shabbat evening the first sliver of the moon is expected, thus starting the third scriptural month of the year. Due to the coming feast of Shavuot and the hectic schedule surrounding it, you are invited to keep Rosh Chodesh in your homes. So, blow those shofars and have a feast!

Here is the traditional prayer for the new month:

O YHVH our El and El of our fathers, make this coming month one of good and of blessing. Grant us long life, a life of peace, of good, of blessing, of sustenance, of vigor; a life marked by a reverence for You and a dread of sin; a life free from shame and reproach; a life of prosperity and honor; a life in which the love of the Torah and the fear of You, YHVH, animate us; a life in which our heartfelt desires are fulfilled for good. You chose Your people Israel from all nations, and gave us instructions about the new month celebrations. Deserving of praise are You YHVH, Who hallows Israel and the new month celebration. B'shem Y'shua M'shekheinu. Amein.

Shavuot Service

On yom reve'i / w'day 4JUN2014 we will celebrate the Feast of Weeks / Shavuot also known as Pentecost. This commemorative feast celebrates the giving of the Torah on Mt. Sinai, our wedding to YHVH as His Am Segula (Chosen People) and later the giving of the Ruach haKodesh after the Ascension of Messiah. Because this is a day that celebrates commitment - our commitment to YHVH and His commitment to us - we have chosen this day to celebrate the commitments in our lives. We will enjoy the D'varim Torah of the B'nei Mitzvot class and welcome them as they become full members of our community.

Our service starts at 2 pm with Oneg following. TRADITIONALLY, dairy foods are consumed on this day. Although we are not bound by traditions of men, the occasionally piece of cheesecake or bowl of ice cream is not a bad thing. Do as you feel led. =)

Don't forget to bring your two leavened loaves of bread for the wave offering.
