Nonprofit News, Reviews & Resources   ||   Issue 92 September 2012

springtime

Dear Reader,

Spring has sprung in Melbourne, albeit with winter glaring bitterly from behind her shoulder from time to time!

We hope this issue will bring some Spring lightness to your day - whether through a little inspiration, the discovery of a useful resource or the opportunity to re-energize by participating in one of the upcoming events you'll find in the calendar.

Cheers

If Your House Were Burning ... ?

theburninghouse

If your house were on fire and you had to leave quickly, what would you take with you? In April 2011, an artist called Foster Huntington asked that question at a dinner party, before recording his own and his friends' responses in words and photographs on his blog and inviting others to answer the same question.

A first trickle of responses became a deluge from strangers all around the world. Thousands of answers, showing a fascinating mix of cultures and values, are collected on The Burning House website. A small percentage of them (200) have recently been published as a book.

As Foster says, "I've always been interested by the way the things people own are reflective of their priorities, their experiences, and where they come from."

So ... what would you take with you?
