To kick off Alcohol Awareness Week, The Office of Counseling Services and Anuvia Prevention and Recovery Center will display the number of alcohol related DWI numbers in Mecklenburg County by placing flags in the ground, each flag represents ten DWI’s reported cases in Mecklenburg County.

April is National Financial Literacy Month
JCSU provides access to financial literacy information everyday through CashCourse.Org. Register and get access to information and resources to help you understand how to best manage your money. For those about to graduate, Cash Course resources are for you as well. There is information, videos, and worksheets applicable to life during and after college. Go to the JCSU website, click on “Money Matters”, click on Cash Course to register and up your financial literacy game. During the month of April look for Money Matter$ tips on social media and announcements about activities.

Darrica Byrd, a junior at Johnson C. Smith University, participated in a nationally competitive event funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation in February. Byrd, was among eight students in the nation selected to attend this year’s Black Enterprise Women of Power Summit in Boca Raton, Fla.

A lean, green, cleaning machine is making life easier for JCSU’s cleaning crew. In Greenfield Hall, the Hillyard Cleaning Companion has replaced the traditional cleaning method to save costs and make the job easier for workers. WFF Facility Services uses Green CleanSM, a cleaning program that is designed to enhance the health and indoor air quality of its buildings for the benefit of faculty, staff, students and the environment.

JCSU ATHLETICS TO HOST PROJECT LIFE MOVEMENT BONE MARROW DRIVE ON APRIL 9 in conjunction with the Project Life Movement.
The Block 10 a.m. until 3 p.m.
The Project Life Movement is a campus-based national marrow donor organization dedicated to finding and enlisting individuals as potential donors for bone marrow and tissue transplants.

JCSU FOOTBALL ANNUAL GOLD-BLUE SPRING GAME APRIL 9
The JCSU football program will test their hard work during spring sessions in an annual inter-squad Gold and Blue Spring Game. The approximately 75-play scrimmage will take place on Eddie C. McGirt Field inside the Irwin Belk Complex on campus. Kickoff is 7 p.m.
Admission is FREE and open to the public.

The 2014 NASCAR Pit Crew Member Development Combine Thursday, April 10 from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. at Brayboy gymnasium. This event seeks to identify top tier, minority and female athletes, and other qualified candidates to train and develop for careers as crew members in stock car racing. Visitors will learn about key historical facts and pioneers, like Dr. Emery Rann and Dr. Reginald Hawkins both alumni of Johnson C. Smith University that influenced the decisions to ensure quality healthcare for African Americans. Exhibit opens at JCSU February 26-April 30. A community-wide event will be hosted on April 13 from 4 PM-6 PM in the James B. Duke Memorial Library to kick-off National Library Week. Reservation is required.
