The 2013 Annual Meeting was held on Saturday, June 15 at the newly renovated branch at 37 Avenue B; attendees enjoyed the official presentation of the Mobile Credit Union and learned the details of the main branch renovation. Hurricane Sandy left us stronger than ever in 2012 and we are immensely thankful for that and for the constant support our members and community organizations provided.

The highlights of 2012 included the renovation of our main branch, the acquisition of our Mobile Branch, the increase of our Select Partner Groups (SPG) and the involvement with youth organizations resulting in a substantial increase in youth accounts. The Mobile Credit Union branch is a partnership of LES People’s FCU, Bethex FCU and WeCare 4 Credit Unions to promote the credit union movement and bring democratic, affordable and transparent financial services to as many communities as possible in NYC. We are interested in building more partnerships with organizations whose members, staff and/or clients can benefit from our services -- such as affordable savings and checking accounts, credit-building loans, financial counseling, immigrants services, emergency loans, etc. We’d love to have credit union branches in every community in NYC, but for now we’ll drive our bus and, just like a food truck, we’ll deliver tasteful financial services. The renovation of the main branch displays the harmony between the old Lower East Side community and the modern groups that has been shaping the gentrification of the LES. Our main branch preserves the icons of our origin such as the beautiful mahogany wood counters and two big murals that were painted by local LES artists. The challenge was to introduce our new branding and space dynamics without disturbing the cozy, familiar, non-bank style we have. Some of the new features include a customized divider wall exhibiting the LES People’s FCU logo, a new receptionist area, a bench that makes the lobby area more comfortable, and desks partitions that will provide more privacy to our members. This renovation cost was covered by a grant that LES People’s FCU was awarded in 2012 by desigNYC .
