Gabriela Sáenz-Shelby has an outstanding career. She holds a Master’s degree in History from Universidad de Costa Rica. Saénz-Shelby was Director of Museo de Arte Costarricense between 2006 and 2008. She was one of the advisors and curators of the exhibitions Las posibilidades de la mirada (2003 & 2007) that took place in that museum, which prompted a radical and renewed approach to the historic evolution of art in Costa Rica. Her research projects about the beginning, evolution and current condition of collections and art museums in Costa Rica are an exceptional contribution to the study of art history and cultural policies in the country. With her designation as General Director, TEOR/éTica stays loyal to its original vocation to join art and tought in order to understand and promote contemporary art and thought in Central America and the Caribbean.
We would also like to take this opportunity to share with you some information about TEOR/éTica. Thanks to our team's work and commitment to the project, as well as to the curatorial work undertaken by Inti Guerrero, Associate Artistic Director, and the Administrative Direction of Dominique Ratton Pérez, TEOR/éTica to fully assert itself and grow and develop a high quality programming. Since we reopened our its doors in February 2012, we have kept a rich program of critical curatorial projects, talks, conversational encounters, screenings, workshops and seminars, like the regional seminar Temas Centrales 2, organized along with the MADC and made possible thanks to the support of HIVOS-ArtsCollaboratory.
Furthermore, the Foundation’s museum was reconfigured and re named Lado V- Centro de Investigación Virginia Pérez-Ratton (Virginia Pérez-Ratton Research Center). Through this new space, which houses TEOR/éTica’s archives, a specialized public library and exhibition space, we aim to activate a dynamic and experimental center for the documentation, research and development of artistic and curatorial practices of Central America and the Caribbean.
We are convinced that in the consolidation of Lado V, as well as in the development of TEOR/éTica's current and future projects, Gabriela Sáenz-Shelby will be a key figure and we are certain that she will achieve many acomplishments.
