Juan Carlos Zaldivar film Shift, selected for MOCA's Optic Nerve permanent collection
Shift, a five-minute stop-motion animation film by Miami artist Juan Carlos Zaldivar, will be purchased for MOCA's permanent collection. MOCA Executive Director Bonnie Clearwater announced the purchase to audience members at Friday's screenings of Optic Nerve 14. Zaldivar's film also was voted the "Audience's Choice" from the crowd of over 400 - a first in the history of the Optic Nerve festival. Made in collaboration with sculptor Anja Marais, from over 10,000 photos taken over a period of 1 ½ years, the film follows the life of a character born from a tree whose face is stolen by a wild dog.
