Nurturing Brilliant Babies
And Perceptive Parents
With Infant Massage
Though they may look like adorable little potatoes in the early months, parents’ experience – and a growing body of scientific evidence – confirm your babies are truly all brilliant. Their capacity to learn & recognize & respond are tremendous from day one… as are moms’ and dads’ innate abilities to understand what their tiny babies are telling them.
Infants understand so much so early that a large part of the learning-each-other curve is on the parent side, recognizing what baby knows and making sense of baby's side of the conversation!
And speaking of "sense", parts of babies' sensory systems are highly developed well before birth, particularly touch & vestibular & hearing... hence the universal magic of stroking, rocking and singing. These senses can be exquisitely acute months before we look into those sweet eyes for the very first time and the delicious detective work begins...
Sharing stories in class, one December Duckie sleuthed-out that she needed to be careful when she sang the new favorite song we use to transition into massage time… her 2-month-old already “knew what it meant” and would get upset with the “false advertising” if his daily massage didn’t immediately follow! Another Marple-mom told how baby would always giggle for a particular milking stroke… hilarious to hear 4 times one class as they got to each of his little limbs!!
Supporting new parents on this journey - seeing their confidence grow as they get face-to-face and hands-on where communication & bonding so naturally flourish - is a rare gift in our often hurry-up, high-tech/low-touch, follow-someone-else’s-“system”, second-guessing, external-information-overload culture. How wonderful that infant massage can help parents & babies slow down & smile & snuggle & grow so beautifully together.
