Happy Birthday to the 'Crown Prince' of Reggae...

Dennis Emmanuel Brown can easily be described as one of the most mellow voices to ever emerge out of Jamaican music. The late reggae superstar was dubbed the "The Crown Prince of Reggae" by his fellow mate, Bob Marley. His first hit single "No Man is an Island" was recorded at age twelve, but was released in late 1969. Brown went on to release many great songs over his decades long career. The "Crown Prince" was born on February 1, 1957 and died on July 1, 1999 of health related issues. Oufah salutes Dennis Brown on his birthday! Here are our top “D. Brown” picks of all times:

Reggae Pioneer King Stitt is dead...

Winston 'King Stitt' Spark died at 1:15 pm at his home in Nannyville, St Andrew on January 31 at the age of 72. The Reggae pioneer passed away after his long battle with prostate cancer and diabetes.

King Stitt was among the first to develop the 'toasting style' in which deejays add rhythmic chants and intros to records being played at parties. This style is said to have eventually morphed into rapping in hip-hop culture.
Stitt, also known for his disfigured facial features and missing teeth, appeared on many records throughout his career, including classic deejay tracks such as 'Lee Van Cleef', 'Fire Corner', 'Vigorton 2' and 'Paradise Plum'.
