It's the end of another week already! Summer is officially here and the month of June almost gone. Where did it go? I've been fighting some health problems again but I'm doing much better now and have a huge To Do list to work on lol.
Talked to my eldest grandson today, Tyler is 13 and has always been a good student. He and I have always had a very honest relationship but you know how teens are. Today when he called he let me know he's still happy to be able to be candid with me. He reported in on his grades which are good, but not as good as we are used to seeing. He usually gets mostly A's with an occasional B. this year he took 3 honors classes (or whatever they are called now) and had some difficulty with Algebra but managed to pull out a C +. He told me he realized towards the end that he did understand it after all and could have done a lot better by being more careful and paying more attention. He said he is going to re-take the class because he knows it's going to show up on his high school records for college and he wants a better grade. I thought it very mature of him to honestly assess himself like that. He didn't do too well in English either, only a C and he knew that wouldn't go over with Nonna (me) because I used to teach English at Virginia Commonwealth University. Again, he said he just let other things take priority but promised he'd do better and live up to his potential next year.
I'm planning to catch up with my sisters in Williamsburg this coming Wednesday. We had planned to go this past Wednesday but there were problems. Okay, it's true - I really have just one blood sibling, a younger brother. The ladies I'm referring to as sisters are the Smith sisters, Wanda and Sandy, who are sisters of the heart. Sandy and I met at VCU while in the Psychology department and later shared a graduate office in the Sociology department. It was years later before I met her older sister, Wanda, but we just clicked. Some where along the way I became an unofficial Smith sister. Couldn't love them more than if we'd been born in same family. Maybe I love them as much as I do because we weren't; you know how real sisters can get on each others' nerves lol.
Anyway, we are going to meet for breakfast at Mama Steve's which serves the best blueberry pancakes. Then we will check out the newly re-modeled Williamsburg Pottery. In the old days, when I was in high school, it was real junky but you could find some great bargains. Not so much anymore. When we tire of that, we'll scout out promising antique stores. There was a time we could run around all day and be disappointed that places were closing up for the night. Now days I might even be home for a late dinner [sigh]
[Special thanks to Mary's Mixes for the lovely divider I'm using this time.]
