Quite often acronyms are used in the world of special education, and transition is no different. Here is a list of acronyms you may see or hear when working with a student's transition! If you're speaking with someone and are uncertain of the acronym they are using - ALWAYS ASK!

CBI - Community Based Instruction

CMH - Community Mental Health

CWTT - County Wide Transition Team

EFE - Education for Employment

FAPE - Free Appropriate Public Education

IEP - Individual Education Plan

IPE - Individual Plan of Employment

ITP - Individual Transition Plan

MMC - Michigan Merit Curriculum

MRS - Michigan Rehabilitation Services

PC - Personal Curriculum

PCP - Person Centered Plan

SPOA - Specific Power of Attorney

SE - Supported Employment

SSDI - Social Security Disability Income

SSI - Supplemental Security Income

WBL - Work Based Learning

YAP - Young Adult Program

The Secretary of State Office

In order for students to become connected with certain community agencies or to apply for a job, they MUST have a Michigan State ID. The Secretary of State office can help!

Who can apply for an ID? Anyone! There is no minimum age requirement.

What is the cost? $10

How long is it valid? 4 years

What do you need?
1. Social Security Card
2. Original Birth Certificate
3. Identity Verification (school ID, yearbook, etc)
4. Proof you live in Michigan (report card, transcript, etc)
