Jim Flaherty, Canada's longest serving finance minister, passed away yesterday (Thursday April 10th). As reported in our March 21st national communication Minister Flaherty resigned last month. He had planned to spend more time with his family in this next phase of his life.

Minister Flaherty was deeply respected in the House of Commons by members of all parties. He is regarded for steering Canada through the global economic shaking of 2008 and proclaimed by some to be the most respected finance minister in the world during that time.

In shock the House of Commons adjourned today upon hearing the announcement. The Conservative caucus met to absorb the announcement together and statements in honour of Minister Flaherty have already been made by the Prime Minister and several other prominent Members of Parliament.

Please agree with us in prayer for Minister Flaherty's family, many friends across Canada and internationally who are all grieving his passing.

Prayer Points Courtesy of the National House of Prayer:
.
1 - Please pray for his wife, Christine Elliott and Children, John, Galen and Quinn, who were anticipating their husband & Father to enjoy this next phase of his life out of the public eye of politics.
.

2 - Pray for all Members of Parliament, as he was well loved by all political parties.
.
3 - Minister Joe Oliver, the new acting finance minister, who now has the difficult task of walking in the shoes of perhaps one of Canada's greatest finance minister. Lets remember to uphold Mr. Oliver in prayer as he undertakes this new position. As well for Prime Minister Stephen Harper who personally witnessed the sacrificial labour that Mr. Flaherty devoted to service of the nation of Canada and the Conservative Party. Today Prime Minister Harper lost a close friend.

THE QUEBEC OUTCOME:

Thank you for your prayers for the Quebec election earlier this week. As you know the Liberals won a majority government with Philippe Couillard serving as Premier.

The good news about this outcome is that it signals a blow to the separatist movement and the move to install the Charter of Values. At the same time there are rumors that the Liberal government may resurrect the euthanasia legislation. Please stay tuned as we watch this in the months ahead.

Please join us in praying for the Liberal Party and Premier Couillard as they steer the province forward.
