About this image by Lino Dumont

For this house at the river in Bern/Switzerland the process started with visiting the site and taking some photos from various vantage points. The model of the house was partly made by one of the architects, so I just had to do some corrections and additions. I did a photomatch aided by the built-in Camera Calibrator inside Cinema4D and rendered it with V-Ray.

Most of the work was post processing the original image along with the render output inside photoshop (added sky, deleted trees, minor light rays, paper texture, old photo look, etc.). I used Lightroom for final coloring and getting the overall mood...

About the Best Visualization of the WEEK Stills vs. Animation

2013-07-21 1115

I did not make any distinction between pure stills to animation work up until this week. This did not seem to pose any issues (mostly since not too many animation are being shared currently), and the last animation taking the best of week by xoio seemed spot on and it just worked (both as animation and still taking out of it + the subject matter was at the core of what we do)

But this week U6 Studio shared a remarkable Hot Rod Commercial taking place inside a kitchen...

L Kitchen Trans Cam02

L Kitchen Trans Cam01

This one clearly goes beyond the scope of any still image work in terms of skill and technical aspects of making it (Story-boarding, Scene design and development, Animation and Rigging, Lighting and shading, Post production and Compositing, Editing and Sound!).

They deserve a mention for their great work on this spot but I think it will be best to segment animation work and keep the best of week for stills only. Depending on how many animations are being submitted I'll consider adding a best animation of the week too ;)

Check out the animation and some breakdown of it too at the forum thread...

Kiernan May‘s ELTHAM HOUSE renderings awarded him Best Visualization of the Week NO. 26 using Maya as his main platform for setting up his scene. Kiernan managed to mix lots of colors in his dusky images keeping the balance with a great final result. Check out his process of making this all work. Enjoy!

fxguide published a remarkably in depth 2 part article about the State of Rendering written by Mike Seymour. Although it is written form the VFX work perspective - It is Highly relevant to the Archviz world too as the VFX industry only recently adopting on mass rendering techniques that we were using for 10+ years but only now become production viable in feature film production too.

These two are no walk in the park... they are long and in-depth articles, so take the time ;)
