MAY 2014 HERO OF THE MONTH

Our May hero of the month is Marianne Click. She has been instrumental in organizing clinics in Texas. She is also the inspiration for bringing a Lightness Tournament to Texas in 2015!

What inspired you to work with Lightness?

I've never been a fan of modern dressage. I don't like the stiff, contrived and manipulated effect it has on the horses. I've always dreamed of being ONE with my horse partner. We are a team, my horses do things because they want to and not because they have to! Years ago, I saw a horse extravaganza called Cavalia. A couple, Frederic Pignon and Magali Delgado brought my dream to life. The horses were like butter in their hands. It was an absolute art form. Ballet on horseback, or off, at liberty. I then began my quest to seek such perfection and communication with my horse partners. I read and reread their book, "Gallop to Freedom", looking for the answers. Through a couple of friends, I heard about Manuel Trigo. I had ridden with these friends for a while, and as hard as they practiced, their riding just stagnated. They just could not get over the hump. They both started clinics with Manuel Trigo, Lightness and Proof of Balance Clinics. I did not join them and figured it to be just another self indulgent trainer seeking to make a buck. To my amazement, I saw these friend's horsemanship transform. They no longer were stagnant. They were happier and more confident and their horse's were so much more responsive. I knew that was the direction I needed to head in my quest. Lightness and balance.

What have you been doing to support riding in Lightness?

I met Manuel Trigo, at IAHLA Nationals in Ft. Worth. He was living in Colorado at the time and was thinking about spending the cold months in AZ. He has started a full series of clinics in AZ, but I was in the process of moving from AZ to Texas. I spoke with him about the possibility of doing a series of clinics in Texas. By the time Nationals were over, Manuel and I had agreed that we would start a Lightness Program in Texas. We met the owners of Haras Dos Cavalieros at Nationals and they offered to have us use their facility in Magnolia, TX to host our clinics. We decided that Houston would be our biggest draw for this philosophy and I have run Manuel's clinics there, ever since. We are in our second season.
I am now starting another series closer to my home, the first clinic in July 18, 19 and 20th in Bandera, TX. north west of San Antonio.
We are planning on a Lightness Tournament in Texas 2015!

What is your vision? Passion?

Horses are my passion, I truly love them! I love the way they think, smell, look, move, you name it. Unfortunatley, my passion is far more extensive than my ability. I probably work harder, than anyone I know, to learn and perform, as it does not come as easy for me. My passion drives me and even though it may take me longer to attain my goal, there is no race or time table. I have no aspirations to compete necessarily. I want to do exhibitions, parades and showcase the Iberian Horses. I tell everyone, leave your ego at the door.

I've had the same recurring dream for many years, of riding a grey stallion, in a long flowing gown and I'm smiling and the stallion is smiling and we are moving as one.
