Create Kitchen Zones or Stations

One of the most important organizing principles you can follow is to create zones or stations in your kitchen so that the items you use together are stored together and near where you use them.

This means, for example, keeping plates, bowls and utensils near each other so that you can easily gather everything you need to set the table, or keeping your cooking tools and pots and pans near the stove.

Although I've followed this principle for the most part, I realized recently that I was missing one of the most obvious stations: one for my coffee and tea!

I am thinking about replacing my (cheap) espresso maker with both a Chemex coffeemaker (a simple, glass brewer that is said to eliminate bitterness and make the best coffee) and a stovetop Bialetti espresso maker. In preparation for that change, I cleared a shelf in the "garage" cabinet where we keep our small appliances so that I could create a hot drink station. I'll be tweaking it over the next few weeks to figure out what works best, and I'm looking forward to having everything I need for my daily cuppa in one place!
