Toronto’s Shoot The Image Performing in London with Jerry Naylor (Former Lead Singer of The Crickets)

Launch Event for Rockabilly Legends Foundation in the UK

On June 17, Toronto band
Shoot The Image will be performing alongside Jerry Naylor, formerly of legendary band The Crickets, at the Half Moon Pub in London, UK. The night marks the official launch of the UK branch of The Rockabilly Legends Foundation.

The Foundation awards scholarships to talented but impoverished students so that they may be able to pursue their chosen career via University or college. The awards have thus far been confined to the USA –Texas University having established The Rockabilly Legends as part of their curriculum. In the UK, the Foundation will have direct links to Paul McCartney’s LIPA foundation (Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts).

Shoot The Image’s debut album, Cranes In The City, was released on Aporia Records on Sept. 18, 2012. Produced by Boz Boorer - guitarist, co-writer and musical director with Morrissey - the album garnered critical acclaim predominantly with online music media while establishing a reputation as a band that communicates its music to fans primarily via music videos interspersed with rare live performances.

“The last time we were in London in 2009, Boz showed up to our gig at the 12 Bar Club,” remembers Simeon Ross. “All the success we’ve had to date began that night over a couple of pints. We’re excited to go back and reconnect with Boz and also really honoured to be performing on behalf of such a great foundation.”

Naylor, who replaced Buddy Holly in the Crickets following Holly’s death in 1959, was witness to the launch of many a career, including Elvis, Roy Orbison and of course Buddy Holly. He enjoyed international success in the 1960s and gained three Grammy nominations for his single “But For Love” in 1970.

While in London, Shoot The Image will also be revisiting the 12 Bar Club on June 16th.

“This CD is absolutely brilliant.” – VanMusic

“Shoot The Image has this seedy synth pop sound that is sweetened by a beautiful frontwoman with an airy voice that boasts just a bit of mystery. Sounds like: Things that go bump, in the city, in the night.”
- Alan Cross
