Dear Radio Free Nachlaot Family, Friends and Fans,
From the heart of Jerusalem, Israel's eternal capital, we wish you a Chag Yom haAtzmaut Sameach - happy Independence Day to the modern State of Israel - 66 years young this week!
Of course "Israel" as a nation is thousands of years old, but the modern Jewish State is a mere baby in terms of years. It's kind of astonishing to think about who else, along with Israel, was born in 1948, including actors Samuel L. Jackson, Billy Crystal, Jeremy Irons, Barbara Hershey, Kathy Bates, Christopher Guest, Bud Cort, Margot Kidder, and Dianne Wiest. Also born in 1948 were performers Olivia Newton-John, Jackson Browne, Alice cooper, Stephen Tyler, Grace Jones, Stevie Nicks, Ozzy Ozborne, and Robert Plant.
We point out these comparisons just for perspective, to illustrate the youthfulness of modern Israel, and just how short a time we've been back in our ancient Homeland.
"Ashraynu," how fortunate, how blessed, how "lucky" are we to have the unbelievable privilege to be able to be in the Holy Land, and to bring our world-wide listening audience the best music, talk & Torah 24/6 from Jerusalem, for going on four-and-a-half consecutive years now. Gevaldt! :)
Wherever you are and whatever you're doing this 66th Yom HaAtzmaut, we hope you had plenty of time to listen to our special Israeli Independence Day programming, featuring songs from Israel's early days and founding years through the present day. It was very special for us to be able to program this show for you!
