Navajo Spinning Using a Navajo Lap Spindle with Marilou Schultz
Subject: Handspinning

Students will learn how to use a Navajo lap spindle using carded wool. Students will first card the fleece and connect the carded wool into one strung then spin again to the final weaving weft using a lap spindle.

The "Lucille", a Beaded Knit Mini-Purse with Nancy VanDerPuy
Subject: Knitting

This is a mini-purse (sometimes called an Amulet Bag) that is worn as a necklace. It uses only the knit stitch. It is made using the technique of Beaded Knitting (beads are strung onto the knitting thread, Perle Cotton, and then worked into the knitting project). This technique was popular in Victorian times and many of the antique beaded purse were made using this technique.

Weave a Dishcloth with Jane Grogan
Subject: Weaving

Using a solid 10.5” wooden frame loom, participants will learn to weave a square with a continuous strand of cotton yarn. The completed square makes a superb dishcloth. Participants will learn to weave using a simple crochet hook. The weaving technique learned in class can be used to complete a single square for a dishcloth. Multiple squares can be joined for larger projects. Participants will have the loom to take home following the class for years of weaving pleasure. Sign UP!

The Beautiful, Humble Art of Plain Sewing: A Workshop for Knitters with Franklin Habit
Subject: Knitting

Plain sewing–a collection of stitches and related handsewing techniques–was once considered a pillar of a woman’s education. In our day, these skills are useful to all, but known by few. We will study and practice a select group of plain sewing methods that are most useful to knitters working with hand-knit fabrics, including useful and decorative stitches, attaching buttons, and finishing buttonholes. Multi Wrap Bracelet with Leather and Beads with Mary Libby Neiman
Subject: Needle Weaving

Working on a "clipboard loom" with two needles, Perle cotton thread, beads, leather cord and a button, students will learn how to make this popular multi wrap bracelet. Using a technique similar to macrame, this stitch can be used with a veriety ofbeads once the basics are mastered in this mini workshop. Sign UP!

How to Knit Gossamer Triangular Shawl the Orenburg Way with Inna Voltchkova
Subject: Knitting

This class is designed to provide knitting with an extensive overview of Russian style lace design. Knitters will be introduced to Classic Gossamer shawl - from pattern - to border -to cornering techniques. Mary Libby Neiman

Mary Libby has been working with and teaching beads and fibers for over 15 years. She has authored two books on beads and fibers, Bead Crochet Basics, and Bead Knitting, as well as several articles for Beadwork and Bead & Button magazines. Her tassel and cord projects as well as bead knit and bead crochet projects have appeared in numerous books.

Recently she has researched and written about Green issues and will continue to promote more earth friendly ways of managing a business and a home.

Ann Mayes

Ann owns Alpacas d’Auxvasse and has been raising alpacas since 2003. Starting with three Suris, the herd has now grown to forty alpacas, both Huacaya and Suri. Her main business focus has always been on fiber production and her goal is to use every bit the beautiful fleece the animals produce. Her yarn and roving is carried in local yarn stores, and sold at fiber festivals throughout the year. Ann is dedicated to producing the best yarn and roving possible in a rainbow of colors for the pleasure of fiber artists worldwide. She enjoys sharing her knowledge with other fiber folks and has taught at many fiber retreats and events.

Judy Chan

Judy Chan has been teaching knitting and other fiber arts in the Chicago area for the past 19 years. She learned to knit from her mother and advanced her knitting techniques from the best knitters and designers at workshops offered by TNNA, TKGA, Stitches, and WCKG. Her one day weekend knitting workshops sponsored by local knitting guilds are scheduled throughout the year and are posted on the Windy City Knitting Guild website: www.windycityknittingguild.com. Judy is currently teaching and helping knitters on an informal basis. Her finished garments can be seen and purchased at local fashion shows throughout the year.
