Crowdfunding - Segment Editor

segment editor small

We want to start work on the Segment Editor feature and are currently raising money for it!

At present, Piwik provides a Segmenting feature that allows you to segment your data in any way you want. This means if you want to see reports for only visits that used a specific browser, or visits that came from a specific website or country, or visits that included a specific webpage, you could use the segmenting feature to generate reports for them. But in order to do that, you'd have to edit each URL by hand every time you want to view the specific segment.

The Segment Editor will make this very powerful existing feature far more accessible. You'll be able to:

create segments visually and isolate any set of visits you want,
generate reports for those visits alone,
save segments so you can view them at any time,
and click to easily switch between them.

If you'd like to be able to view reports for any specific portion of your visits, consider pitching in to fund this feature!

There are only a few days left, please pledge now!

New Release v1.10.1 now out!

Piwik version 1.10.1 is the latest major release and brings two powerful new features: Page Overlay and Annotations. We also fixed some security issues: this update is highly recommended.

overlay half

New Feature - Page Overlay

Page Overlay displays your analytics data right on top of the website you are tracking. Using this feature, you’ll be able to:

view your website’s overall analytics data right next to your website.
view transition (funnel) and historical data while browsing your website.
see where your visitors click on each of your webpages.

Annotations

New Feature - Annotations

Annotations lets you attach text notes to different dates in the past, and displays them when you view analytics data over time. Using this feature, you’ll be able to:

mark changes to your website (like new blogposts or design changes), or mark special events (like holidays or product launches),
star important notes so you’ll notice them the next time you’re looking at your data,
use these notes to create analyses of your data and save them as new annotations, then…
act on the new insights you gain when you view your annotations in the future.

Other Improvements

In addition to the above major new features, this huge release also adds:

a new report showing you which social networks send visitors to your website
an improved SEO widget
the ability to automatically update your GeoIP databases
the ability to exclude visitors (like bots) based on their user agent string
the ability to see the visits of a returning visitor
the ability to see the lat/long coordinates of a visitor in the visitor log

You can read more about this release on the blog.

ClearCode Interview, a company doing business with Piwik

The team behind our Piwik.org website redesign was recently featured in an interview on the Piwik blog. In this interview we learn more about Clearcode, a software and design company of 50+ employees, that uses Piwik extensively and also regularly contributes to the project.

Clearcode comes highly recommended for your web and mobile projects, where you will benefit from the work of professional and talented software developers, UX specialists and designers.

We moved to GitHub!

We have migrated the full Piwik source code to a GIT repository, hosted at GitHub. To get started, "Star" the project at: github.com/piwik/piwik.

This is a significant technology move for Piwik and the team is thrilled by this change. We hope that using GitHub will enable talented developers to contribute to Piwik, and hopefully new devs will join the core team in the future.
