World Family Foundation Staying In Touch - Spring 2014

Dear WFF Sponsors and Friends,

We hope you like our new email format! Spring is in the air and it's time to catch up on all the news at World Family Foundation. We have many stories to share - the children continue to blossom and grow with your love, support and encouragement!

Prashanti School, Puri, India

Sponsors and Donors Needed!

Do you have family members, friends or colleagues who would like to help a destitute child? Seven new little children are being admitted to our program in India for the 2014-2015 school year... and they need sponsors! These children come from backgrounds of extreme poverty and neglect, and this is their chance for a better childhood and a brighter future. Sponsorship of only $360 per year helps provide housing, food, clothing, medical and tutoring, and $200 pays for tuition and books for a full year. Cash donations are also needed - every dollar helps. Education is the key to breaking the cycle of poverty for these needy children. Share your love by inviting others to participate. Click HERE for more information.

Here are the first 3 of the new children:

PRADEEP PRADHAN:
Pradeep (5 years old) is the younger brother of Dipa Pradhan who is already in Prashanti School. Their father abandoned them four years ago and left their young illiterate mother with the two little ones to raise on her own.
SUBHASHREE & ITISHREE SUNDARAY:
Subhashree (8 years old) and Itishree (7 years old) are two little sisters who were left by their parents to be raised by their elderly grandmother and grandfather. Their father left them more than two years ago and then the mother left to go to Delhi to find work. She has never returned and they have no contact with her. The grandparents are old and sickly and cannot provide for them.

Prashanti Student Updates:

This year we have 2 boys graduating High School. With the loving financial support of their WFF sponsors, Pratap will go on to college, and Sunil will go on to professional Classical Odissi Dance school. Under the continued guidance of the Prashanti School staff, the boys will bring the academics, strong values and self-confidence they have learned with them as they move forward on their life paths. Without WFF sponsorship, they would have ended up working in the rice paddy fields, doing menial labor, or even begging to survive. Because of your loving support, their futures are bright! Student Bio: Rasmita - A success Story

Rasmita came to Prashanti School as a small child from the leper colony in Puri - her father has leprosy and her mother has a heart condition, so they were unable to support Rasmita or provide her with an education. Children born in the leper colonies are some of the most overlooked, marginalized children who come from families that can barely feed them, much less send them to college. WFF Sponsor support has allowed Rasmita to complete her schooling through junior college, and she is now attending nursing school! The program at Prashanti School gives the children a strong foundation in human values and service to family and community. Rasmita is growing up to be a lovely young woman with a strong drive to give back - her strong desire to become a nurse is based on her commitment to help her family, serve the community, and reduce suffering. Your loving support for the children of WFF makes this all possible! We currently have 8 WFF kids studying in college!

Sponsors Visit Prashanti School

WFF Board members Martha Lira, Bruce and Leslie Bouche, and Sponsors Pat and Jerry Graybill had a chance to visit at the school, meet with all the kids, and spend time with their sponsored children. It was Martha's first trip to India! For her wonderful account of the visit and more photos, just click HERE.

Special Visit by St. Xavier High School

The residential children of Prashanti School received a special visit by class 9 and 10 students from St. Xavier High School in Puri. The high school kids came bearing lots of gifts, and all had great fun
together. Thanks from all the PS children for such a loving visit!

A Visit by Oasis of Peace - Howard and Dorit

Howard and Dorit from Oasis of Peace School in Israel spent a week visiting with Elizabeth and the kids of Prashanti School in India. WFF partners with Oasis of Peace, which is a wonderful school that embraces children from Palestinian, Jewish, and Christian backgrounds on an equal basis. Howard and Dorit discussed the shared problems of running a school, taught Israeli folk dances to the children, and arranged a trip to Sea Beach complete with ice cream for some of the kids who needed a little extra loving. Thank you Uncle Howard and Auntie Dorit! For more information on Oasis of Peace click HERE.

Prashanti International School

PIS continues to grow and grow. This year PIS has classes through grade 4, for both our WFF sponsored residential children of Prashanti School and for local low-income kids from the surrounding villages. Classroom space is extremely tight, and more classrooms are desperately needed. Each year more children want to enroll at PIS because the academic and values programs are excellent, while the tuition is kept very low to serve the needs of the poor families in the area. The dream is to build a primary/high school complex that can take the children from kindergarten through graduation in class 10, and will also serve as a regional storm shelter during cyclones. The plan is to build in stages by adding classrooms as funds become available. SPECIAL DONATIONS TO THE BUILDING PROJECT CAN BE MADE THROUGH WFF. Please contact Bruce, WFF Treasurer, at 805-807-3309 for further information. Let's work together to provide a good education for these needy children, and help break the cycle of poverty! Singithi Sevana Children's Home, Sri Lanka

WFF sponsors 5 bright girls with living expenses and education, which enables them to stay on at Singithi Sevana and receive special tutoring. Without this sponsorship, the girls would have to move to the government orphanage where they would be trained only for unskilled jobs. One of the older girls has graduated high school and has returned to her village, and so a new younger girl, Sulochana, has entered the program. Sulochana came to Singithi Sevana as a 9 year old in 2010. She has a younger brother who is in another home in Kandy. She is fatherless, and her mother, who is illiterate and a domestic helper, had sought assistance from the Child Care department, which then brought Sulochana to Singithi Sevana. Sulochana is now in grade 8, and she has a chance for a good continuing education which will allow her to have a strong, bright future. All of the WFF sponsored girls receive extra tutoring in English, academics and cultural subjects.such as dance and music. They range from grade 6 through junior college. Your loving participation with WFF is making an enormous difference for these girls!

WE THANK YOU!

It is because of your loving and dedicated commitment through your donations and sponsorships, that the lives of so many children have been positively affected. Sometimes it is hard to realize just how much your donations mean to the lives of these destitute children. The impact of your giving affects not only these children, but other lives for years to come. Just like the ripples in a pond, the changes radiate out from these children into their families, their communities, and the future.

You are changing the world, one child at a time!
