ENABLE AMERICA AND NORTHWESTERN MUTUAL

THE NORTH CAROLINA NATIONAL GUARD

RALEIGH, NC – September 10, 2013: This month more than 50 transitioning members of the North Carolina National Guard improved their employment skills, thanks to a Job Readiness Workshop produced by Enable America and Northwestern Mutual. In a post-session survey, participants gave the workshop outstanding reviews.

“Thanks to Northwestern Mutual’s sponsorship of our work, and the dedication of human resource professionals who volunteered their time and talent, we were able to provide some of our most deserving citizens with services that improve their access to meaningful employment,” said Sandy Moonert, Enable America’s Program Director in North Carolina.

Enable America is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving employment opportunities for veterans and people with disabilities. Earlier this year the organization was honored by Northwestern Mutual with a $10,000 Community Service Award, which made the event possible.

Corporate partners of Enable America provided much of the human resource expertise necessary for the program. HR professionals from Eaton Corporation, Duke Energy, LabCorp, and Lowe’s, as well as Northwestern Mutual, participated in the event, giving guard members personalized insight and training that is necessary to compete in today’s difficult job market.

“New information is shared at each Enable America workshop because different panelists participate representing different industries and employers,” Moonert said. “Job search advice from these business professionals in an interactive environment makes these workshops unique and valuable to all seeking employment, including veterans who may be re-entering the civilian job market for the first time in many years.”

After the event, participants were asked to provide feedback on the quality of services provided, and the responses were overwhelmingly positive. Here are the results:

• How useful was the morning program offering Job Search instruction? 100% - Very Useful.
• How useful was the afternoon coaching session? 82% Very Useful. 17% Useful.
• Do you agree with this statement: “I believe the information from today’s workshop will assist me in my job search.” 88% Strongly Agree. 12% Agree.

The feedback form also solicited comments, which included “This workshop gave me insight on ways to better myself for future employment. Keep having workshops.” Another participant wrote, “The workshop taught me where and how to fix the mistakes in my interviews.”

“Veterans Affairs estimates that 300,000 service men and women will be separating from the military each year for the next five years,” said Richard Salem, chairman and founder of Enable America. “North Carolina has one of the largest military footprints in the country and is experiencing very high unemployment for veterans. We’re thankful to our corporate partners who make these programs possible, and look forward to continuing this valuable work.”

The next Enable America Job Readiness Workshop will be at Ft. Bragg, sponsored by Duke Energy, on October 30, 2013. Employers and organizations interested in participating in future events can contact Sandy Moonert, and find out more information at the organization’s website, EnableAmerica.org.
