Hi there! This week, I enjoyed this creative collaboration among DIY bloggers. (Community leads to traffic.) Call me one of THOSE people, but these photos are adorable (especially #19). And because I'm a fan of quick, simple, tasty, have-it-all-on-hand desserts, I'm a fan of these peanut butter bars.

1. How to find the most up-to-date posts on ever-changing topics

One of the negative things about getting tips online is that information become outdated easily. A lot of the posts that float to the top of search results are the old ones...the ones that include info that has long changed. Here's a tip. If you start to hear there's been another change on Facebook or Gmail or elsewhere, use Google to search, but instead of just doing the normal search, hit the "News" results to get what's been written lately.

2. How to communicate so people will listen

Developing better communication skills is on my goals lists (example). Too often I simply say too much. I bury the essentials in rambling, repeating myself, thinking out loud and trying to be funny. The post 7 Power Tools of Persuasion addresses entrepreneurs pitching their idea to investors, but the points are just as applicable to those of us who blog, write and speak. The mistakes highlighted are common. It's good to understand what we're really communicating when we're communicating. Great tips.

3. How to get more pins and repins on Pinterest

"Descriptions about 200 characters long are the most repinnable." That's according to Dan Zarrella. Read more of his takeaways from studying 11,000 pins here.

4. Where not to put your ads

"...66% of attention on a normal media page is spent below the fold. That leaderboard at the top of the page? People scroll right past that and spend their time where the content not the cruft is."

That's according to Time's article What You Think You Know About the Web Is Wrong (see Myth #4). If you're a blogger, when was the last time you checked the conversion rate of that ad spot? Is it worth keeping? If you're an advertiser, maybe it'd be better to target the below-the-fold ads. Do what works of course, but it's always good to experiment.
