Adelante has medical and nursing internships available in many locations - you could begin as soon as this Fall. Below are some tips for your international healthcare internship:
1. While a formal pre-med status is not required, some experience in either a hospital, ER, clinic or private practice is usually required.
2. Some experience working with patients in all states of health is preferred.
3. Study up on the language. You can wing it but the better your language skills, the better and more involved your actual work experience and duties.
4. Bedside manner in another culture is something invaluable & unable to be taught here. You will learn this quicker with some language skills.
5. It is rare that you will be allowed to actually perform medical procedures or surgeries or prescribe medication. Plan on lots of intake, stats checking, patient one on one and observing & assisting.
Healthcare internships are available in Madrid, Seville and Marbella, Spain, Vina del Mar, Chile, Oaxaca, Mexico and Montevideo, Uruguay.
