The Optional Protocol to the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (OP-ICESCR) celebrates the First Anniversary of its entry into force on May 5.
The OP-ICESCR allows individuals and groups to seek justice at the international level (UN) when they have experienced violations of their ESC rights and have not been able to secure a remedy at the domestic level.
However, a country has to ratify the OP-ICESCR before its citizens can access this remedy. Has your country ratified it yet? |

Try to engage your national authorities and encourage them to make some announcement. Some useful talking points are:
▪ Ratification allows your country to demonstrate international human rights leadership, working collaboratively with the UN Committee on ESCR.
▪ The Optional Protocol does not create any new rights but rather shows a clear commitment to meeting existing human rights obligations.
▪ Your country is welcome to join the Group of Friends of the OP-ICESCR to exchange information and advance ratification and implementation in conversation with other governments.
▪ By ratifying the OP-ICESCR, your country will demonstrate a commitment to strong Post-2015 development goals that respect, protect and fulfill human rights.

El Protocolo Facultativo del Pacto Internacional para los Derechos Económicos, Sociales y Culturales (PF-PIDESC) celebra el primer aniversario de su entrada en vigor el 5 de mayo.
El PF-PIDESC permite a individuos y grupos buscar justicia a nivel internacional (ONU) cuando hayan sufrido violaciones de sus DESC y no hayan encontrado un recurso efectivo a nivel doméstico.
Sin embargo, un país tiene que ratificar el PF-PIDESC para que sus ciudadanos puedan acceder a este mecanismo. ¿Ha ratificado ya su país el PF-PIDESC? |

Intente involucrar a sus autoridades nacionales y solicite que hagan alguna declaración positiva respecto al Protocolo Facultativo. Algunos argumentos para conseguirlo son:
▪ La ratificación permite a su país mostrar liderazgo internacional en materia de Derechos Humanos, trabajando mano a mano con el Comité de Naciones Unidas para los DESC.
▪ El Protocolo Facultativo no crea nuevos derechos pero muestra un compromiso con las obligaciones actuales sobre derechos humanos.
▪ Su país está invitado a unirse al Grupo de Amigos del PF-PIDESC para intercambiar información y lograr la ratificación e implementación en conversación con otros gobiernos.
▪ Al ratificar el PF-PIDESC, su país demostrará su compromiso con objetivos de desarrollo Post-2015 que respetan, protegen y cumplen con los derechos humanos.

Le Protocole Facultatif au Pacte International relatif aux Droits Économiques, Sociaux et Culturels (PF-PIDESC) fête son premier anniversaire d’entrée en force en Mai.
Le PF-PIDESC permet aux individus et aux groupes d’obtenir justice au niveau international lorsqu’ils ont été victimes de violations de leurs droits ESC et qu’ils n'ont pas d’accès à un recours effectif dans leur propre pays.
Cependant, un pays doit tout d’abord ratifier le PF-PIDESC afin que ses citoyens puissent bénéficier de ses ressources au niveau domestique. Votre pays l’a-t-il déjà ratifié? |
Essayez d’engager et d’encourager vos autorités nationales à faire des annonces. Vous trouverez ci-dessous quelques points utiles de discussion:
▪ La Ratification permet à votre pays de s’ériger en tant que représentant du droit international relatif aux droits de l’homme, travaillant en collaboration avec le comité des Nations Unis sur les doits ESC.
▪ Le protocole facultatif ne crée pas de nouveaux droits, mais démontre un réel engagement à faire respecter les obligations des Droits de l’Homme déjà existants.
▪ Votre pays est encouragé à se joindre au Groupe des Amis du PF-PIDESC pour échanger des informations et faire avancer l’intégration et la ratification en convergence avec d’autres gouvernements.
▪ En ratifiant le PF-PIDESC, votre pays affirmera son engagement vis-à-vis du développement solide Post-2015, d’objectif de respect, de protection, et de mise en oeuvre des Droits de l’Homme.
