Nov. 23-25: Thanksgiving Weekend

After the turkey has been gobbled, head to Fredericksburg and dive into the holiday spirit. Fredericksburg’s holiday season kicks off the Friday after Thanksgiving with the annual Lighting Ceremony at Marktplatz on Main Street. Join visitors and locals as the Community Christmas Tree and 26-foot German Christmas Pyramid are illuminated for the first time this season and for the opening of the Eisbahn, Fredericksburg’s outdoor skating rink. Then shop ’til you drop along Main Street and at two special shopping events, Fredericksburg Trade Days and The Peddler Show. Before you leave, stop by St. Nick’s Tree Farm to pick your family’s Christmas tree and head home full of Christmas cheer.

Nov. 30- Dec. 2: Holiday Wine Tours & Holiday Shows

Take time to relax and enjoy a glass of wine on the Holiday Wine Trail that takes place each weekend in the Hill Country from Friday, November 30 through Sunday, December 16. Or get in the Christmas spirit with one of the many concerts and musical events in Fredericksburg including the Fredericksburg Chorale’s Christmas Concert at St. Joseph’s Hall, live music at Luckenbach Texas or Rockbox Theater’s award-winning Christmas show. Tour Fredericksburg’s finest historical homes and buildings decked out in their Christmas best during the Pioneer Museum’s Holiday Home Tour, on Saturday, December 1.

Dec. 7-9: Lighted Christmas Parade and St. Nikolausmarkt

Fredericksburg’s highly-anticipated lighted Christmas parade featuring bands, lighted floats and St. Nick himself, kicks off another great holiday weekend in Fredericksburg, December 7 at 6:30 p.m. Enjoy the lights and sounds of the parade, and then head over to Marktplatz to enjoy the state-of-the-art laser light show, and St. Nikolausmarkt. Fine art galleries will also open their doors for a holiday edition of First Friday Art Walk Fredericksburg on Friday, December 7. Spend Saturday morning shopping Main Street, then grab the kids and head to Kinderfest, the Pioneer Museum’s Christmas Children’s Festival, on Saturday, December 8. For those feeling a bit more ‘fancy,’ celebrate the holidays in style at the Gillespie County Historical Society’s Tannenbaum Ball Saturday evening.

Dec. 14-16: Weekend of Christmas Traditions

Enjoy the spirit of Christmas with a live production of The Christmas Journey, performed by Bethany Lutheran Church Friday and Saturday, December 14 and 15. Shop Fredericksburg Trade Days as it returns for a final time in 2012 and head down Main Street for yet another opportunity to find the perfect gifts for everyone. After spending the day shopping or enjoying the Holiday Wine Trail, dance the night away at Pat’s Hall’s Christmas Party or catch the latest production from the Fredericksburg Theater Company, “The 1940’s Radio Hour.” Wrap up a festive weekend in Fredericksburg with the 43rd annual LBJ Tree Lighting—a centennial year of celebration in honor of Lady Bird’s 100th birthday at the Lyndon B. Johnson State Park and Historic Site near Stonewall on Sunday, December 16.

Dec. 17-24: Last Minute Shoppers Paradise

Last minute shoppers can find something for everyone the week before Christmas in the more than 150 shops, boutiques and galleries along Fredericksburg’s Main Street. Fredericksburg’s wineries and tasting rooms offer an ideal setting for holiday multitasking—sip on a glass of wine and grab some great gifts including a bottle of award-winning Hill Country wine. Dec 25-26: Christmas in Fredericksburg

Spend Christmas snuggled up at one of Fredericksburg’s charming B&Bs, then enjoy the Christmas night dance at Pat’s Hall featuring the Bo Porter band. The day after Christmas, enjoy the Becker Vineyards Boxing Day celebration followed by the first night of the Auslander Winter Music Festival, which promises to keep chilly toes tapping from December 26 through the end of 2012.

Dec. 26-31: Ringing in 2013—Hill Country Style

In the Hill Country there is no better way to ring in the New Year than with friends and family in Fredericksburg—the heart of the Hill Country. The Auslander Winter Music Festival continues to bring live music to Fredericksburg every night of the week between Christmas and New Year’s. Kick up your heels (or boots) at any of the scheduled New Year’s dances and shows in and around Fredericksburg including events at Pat’s Hall, the Stonewall Chamber Hall, Luckenbach Texas, The Turner Club, Albert Dance Hall, the Hangar Hotel and Rockbox Theater. Or, bring in the New Year by participating in two Volkssport (walking sport) events planned for December 31 in Fredericksburg—the Memorial Volkssport Walk and the Midnight Volkssport Walk. Wrap up your New Year Celebration at Torre Di Pietra’s Black Eyed Pea and Cornbread Cookoff on New Year’s Day.
