We concluded our 7th Annual Teen Summer Camp in Tehachapi, CA in early August and sent camp participants home with smiles on their faces, memories for a lifetime, and best of all, mindfulness, meditation and compassion-in-action tools that will help them build self-confidence and create positive lasting change within themselves and their communities.
Campers participated in a morning Stop, Breathe & Think workshop that rolled right into lunch and then onto afternoon activities, such as fine arts, arts & crafts, sports, yoga, horseback riding, and swimming. The engaging evening activities such as karaoke and gathering around the campfire gave each camper the opportunity to bond as a group. We celebrated the last evening of camp by hosting a surprise ice cream social party.
This camp season, two days prior to camp we hosted the first annual Peer Mentor Training for our peer mentor leaders. We were able to provide our peer mentors opportunities to grow, learn and develop their leadership skills, enhance self-confidence, utilize skills they have learned through Stop, Breathe & Think, and to be part of positive growth of our camp program. In addition, they were instrumental in supporting the campers and activity workshops during the camp week.
We would like to thank all of our Tools for Peace staff, counselors, and volunteers for coming together in making our camp event a very successful one. Also, special thanks to our donors, in-kind contributors and educational partners for their on-going support of the Tools for Peace camp program and believing that our program continues to make a difference in the lives of the students we work with.
