EMDR Basic Training

I am pleased to announce the first Southern California SonomaPTI EMDRIA approved basic training in EMDR will be held starting June 30, 2012. The ONE80CENTER, offering the most innovative and effective addiction rehabilitation in the nation, will host the first Los Angeles area SonomaPTI basic training in EMDR. Registration is now open for this training. Register for this Southern California training directly with the ONE80CENTER.

Registration has also opened for the SonomaPTI Fall 2012 EMDRIA approved basic training in EMDR in Alameda. This Northern California training program begins September 8, 2012.

Assessing attachment style

This month I would like to highlight additional internet resources to help you assess adult attachment style. "Given the emphasis in the AIP model on the potential impact of foundational experiences on responses to later-occurring traumatic exposures, it makes sense to consider adult attachment classification as an important aspect of case formulation. (Leeds, 2009, p. 67).

Chris Fraley is an Associate Professor at the University of Illinois's Department of Psychology who researches attachment processes in close relationships, personality dynamics and development, and research methods. He offer several attachment-related online resources including:

A Brief Overview of Adult Attachment Theory and Research

On-line Attachment Questionnaire (CRQ/ECR-R) (Fraley, Waller, & Brennan, 2000)
This web survey is a broad-based measure of attachment styles in close relationships.

ECR-Relationship Structures
This web application is designed to assess individual differences in attachment across multiple relationships.

Frequently Asked Questions about the Close Relationships Questionnaire (CRQ) or the Experiences in Close Relationships--Revised (ECR-R) questionnaire (Fraley)

Back issues of the Journal of EMDR

Depression: An evolutionary byproduct of immune system?
Depression is common enough -- afflicting one in ten adults in the United States -- that it seems the possibility of depression must be "hard-wired" into our brains. This has led biologists to propose several theories to account for how depression, or behaviors linked to it, can somehow offer an evolutionary advantage.

New depression treatment 'safe and effective'
Stimulating the brain with a weak electrical current is a safe and effective treatment for depression and could have other surprise benefits for the body and mind, find a a major Australian study of transcranial Direct Current Stimulation.

Eating berries benefits the brain
Strong scientific evidence exists that eating blueberries, blackberries, strawberries and other berry fruits has beneficial effects on the brain and may help prevent age-related memory loss and other changes, scientists report.

Could rosemary scent boost brain performance?
Hailed since ancient times for its medicinal properties, we still have a lot to learn about the effects of rosemary. Now researchers have shown for the first time that blood levels of a rosemary oil component correlate with improved cognitive performance.

Blood pressure drug effective for treating PTSD-related nightmares
The blood pressure drug prazosin appears to be an effective treatment to curb post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)-related nightmares.

Service dog training program for treatment of posttraumatic stress in service members
In July 2008, social worker and certified service dog trainer Rick Yount created the first Warrior dog-training program designed to be a safe, effective, nonpharmaceutical intervention to treat the symptoms of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and traumatic brain injury in Veterans and service members...

90 percent of firefighters exhibit symptoms of PTSD, Israeli study suggests
A new study on the prevalence of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) among firefighters in Israel indicates that approximately 90 percent show some form of full or partial symptoms.

Dissociation and social cognition in schizophrenia spectrum disorder
While there is emerging evidence that dissociation is linked with trauma history and possibly symptoms in schizophrenia, it remains unclear whether dissociation represents a symptom dimensions in its own right in schizophrenia and as such is uniquely related to other features of illness.
