Brenda Roche Wolford, M.S., R.D., is the Nutrition, Family & Consumer Sciences Advisor at the University of California Cooperative Extension in Los Angeles County. She began working at UC Cooperative Extension in August 2008. Wolford oversees two federally funded nutrition education programs - the Expanded Food & Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP) and the UC CalFresh Nutrition Education Program (or SNAP-ED). She also coordinates with University of California specialists and academic advisors to implement applied research programs and to disseminate research-based information on nutrition and health to low-income communities in California.
Wolford received a B.S. in nutritional sciences from Cornell University in 2002. She went on to complete a dietetic internship at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital located in New York City in 2004. She received an M.S. in food policy and applied nutrition from Tufts University in 2008. Wolford previously worked as the director of nutrition for a non-profit organization in Harlem, N.Y., serving people living with HIV and AIDS. In this position, she managed a soup kitchen and food pantry and counseled clients on basic HIV nutrition principles for the prevention of chronic diseases.
She is a member of the American Dietetic Association and the California Dietetic Association. She is currently the nominating committee chair for the California Dietetic Association/Los Angeles District (LAD).
