It's Getting Close!

Not only is Photostock drawing near, but so is completion of the exterior on the new workshop building! It's been a long haul and what a ride it has been! It was only a little over 2 weeks ago that we started construction, but I have to admit is seems like a year ago to me. It has been a blur of contractors, inspectors, permits, delivery and cement trucks. I'm happy to report that we are nearing the end of exterior construction. Currently home catching up on business and the upcoming gathering, I will be shipping out again to the north country to oversee what I hope will be the final week. After that, I will start working on the interior and do so all the way up to the start of our gathering on the 20th of June. As I mentioned before, the building won't be complete, but it will be well underway and ready for an open house on the Saturday of the Photostock Gathering. This year, the building... and you are the stars and we have some celebrating to do. I'll keep posting updates to the Kickstarter page as well as send out a couple more newsletters leading up to the event letting you know where things stand. You can also scroll down through this newsletter to see a few more images of the construction that has been going on.

Registrations

We've had a good number of people register this year and judging by the names, we have a healthy mix of new faces along with seasoned veterans. I'm so happy to see the familiar names that are coming and really looking forward to all the newcomers. Listed among them are people I have long wanted to meet as well as people I've met elsewhere, but have never made the journey up to Photostock. I'm really happy to see everyone joining us for yet another year of camaraderie and sharing.

If you know of anyone that would be interested in joining us, spread the word!

What's on the Agenda?

I will be working up the schedule in the coming week as I hear back from people I have approached for presentations. However, I hope you won't be expecting too much in the way of a regimented schedule this year. With all the building going on and attention to the detail, you'll have to forgive me for being slow in getting everything else together.

But fear not... We'll have the usual print exchange and print sharing as well as a few presentations, but in true Photostock spirit, we're going to go at it leisurely. After all, it is more about meeting old friends and new as well as making more photographs. Those of you that have been before know that things take their own course and it will be a good time no matter what.

This is not the last newsletter, so keep a lookout for a link to the loose schedule in the next one.

Print Exchange!

be sure to bring a print for the print exchange! If you'd like to take home an original photographic print made by someone in attendance, be sure to bring one that you can put into the exchange. Everyone who puts one in will take one home.

Don't forget!

Bring Prints!

One of the best parts of Photostock is sharing work with people. It's been amazing how people's work has progressed over the years and now is the time to show it off. Be sure to bring your work be it finished out in a full portfolio or unmounted works in progress. All visuals are welcomed and encouraged!

Volunteers?

I'm looking for a few volunteers to help out this year with various things, but nothing too involved. Mostly just help in welcoming newcomers, but I am also interested in anyone that wants to lead expeditions out into the field. As you may know, it is a beautiful area with lots to photograph and it would be a great help to have those of you willing to guide those that need help finding the good spots.

I am also looking for a couple people, preferably good on the barbecue, to help out with the open house at the workshop site on Saturday. We're planning to have some picnic food for everyone in the form of hot dogs, hamburgers and all the fixings. it would be great to have a couple people that can take spells on cooking them up.

Last, but not least, I am always looking for those that wish to show and tell. if you have a presentation or demonstration you would like to get on the schedule, let me know and we will be happy to accommodate you.

If interested in doing any of the above, please contact me via email and I will get you on the list.

That's all for now! More to come in the time remaining before the event, so please stay tuned! And please look below for some more photographs of the construction going on!

Bill Schwab
