Apples lower bad cholesterol and help you lose weight

In a study at University of Florida, 160 women between the ages of 45-55 ate dried apples or prunes everyday for a year. The women in the apple group lowered their bad cholesterol by 23% and increased their good cholesterol by 4%. They lost weight (3.3 lbs) even though they ate 240 extra calories in apples. These benefits were not seen in the prune group.

Stress Causes Weight Gain in Some People

A Harvard University study followed 1355 men and women for nine years and found that stress causes weight gain in people who are already overweight, in women more than men and is influenced by what kinds of food people eat when they are stressed.

At Zanjabee, we believe each of us is unique. Some of us eat more when we are stressed and gain weight. Others stop eating and/or sleeping. There is only one constant. Stress is not good for any of us. Make time to eat well, exercise and get at least 7-8 hours of sleep especially if you are stressed. Grilled Miso-Glazed Fish

At Zanjabee we love fish and Japanese food. So this recipe for Miso-glazed fish had to be sent to our friends and patients. You can use any kind of oily fish you like e.g. salmon or tuna. Wild salmon is a great source of Omega 3 Fatty acids which are very important for reducing inflammation in the body. Farm raised salmon has too much mercury. Miso paste is a soy product. Red Miso is one of few things that will reverse graying of hair in some people. Try daily red Miso soup if you are unhappy with your gray hair. Japanese use red Miso only during the winters. They use white Miso paste in the summer. Zanjabee does not recommend red Miso in the summer since there is probably an ancient wisdom in why different seasons have different Misos.
