The ELVA Book

The ELVA book continues to receive 5* Reviews ... This is one of many ...
"The best motoring book ever? Elva: The Cars,The People,The History is well up to the high standards set by Bull Publishing and Mr Wimpffen, in fact I would go so far as to say that it is amongst the best motor racing titles that I have ever read. I've always enjoyed watching Elvas race, and never really knew much about the cars or the characters behind them. This book tells you everything you could care to know. Such detail and quality is rare. Don't hesitate, press that "buy it now" button !!!"

The very special signed "PE" version of the book is nearing completion, with availability likely in October. Details from DBP.

MG Enthusiasts

Scribe Mike Taylor dragged several owners of low volume manufactures sports cars along to a very wet Goodwood circuit where the cars were compared for a feature article "B-Series Borrowers" published in the July issue of the MG Enthusiasts magazine.

Courier Mk.IV T-Type owner Neville Young let Mike loose to drive his full race Courier and a couple of grinning 'drowned rats' reappeared some time later. The Courier section of the article can be read by clicking the image to see a larger image.

GT160-LMC-1

GT160 at Le Mans Classic 2012

I first met with GT160 (7S/GT/3) at the tail end of the 1970's when I discovered it was garaged within a few hundred yards away from the site of the Elva factory in Sedlescombe Road North, Hastings. Colour yellow, the condition was best described as somewhat 'used', however it did take to the hills just a few miles away when driven by Peter Tegg at the annual Bodiam Hill Climb.

GT160-LMC-3

I became increasingly anxious to buy and restore the car, which became a long convoluted story, however it eventually came to me and slowly the rebuild began. I suppose this comment has been made many many times, but it is staggering that such a stunning vehicle came so close to being lost to the ravages of time. However the car was given a new lease of life at Elva Racing before being sold to the States.

GT160-LMC-4

The years pass and now full circle! The car returned to a new UK owner Michael Birch having had several seasons on the track in several countries. Michael obviously recognised the potential in this pretty and very rare coupe and set about making it the potent race car that was proposed way back in the early 1960's.

GT160 LMC 2012

Lots of professional input resulted in a feature article in Classic & Sports Car mag (Feb 2012), a successful entry in the Le Mans Classic and an amazing and extremely well deserved 4th overall position having only been out paced by three GT40's. A wonderful performance by drivers Gareth Burnett, Alex Ames and Richard Evans, superb preparation by Pace Products and a determined belief in the car by Michael. Magnificent!

There will be a new range of quality shirts and other regalia thanks to the efforts of fellow ELVA owner Chris Silvestri and his Tartan Terriers clothing company. Spam mail

The half-wits of this world continue to send potentially harmful spam mail. Just a reminder that my emails ALWAYS contain words in the "subject" heading almost certainly including "ELVA". If 'no subject' then the message does NOT come from me and do not open! I am not aware that this is actually happening but be warned. These freaks should do something useful with their lifes such as finding a way to email those of us in the UK some sunshine!!

Have fun ...
