Dear fellow TJ classmates,

In the weeks since my last note to you, over 1000 alumni responded, and 650 alumni updated their profiles in the alumni directory. Many of you joined the TJHSST Alumni group on Facebook and joined our class group on Facebook.

As one of TJ's first set of classes, we played a key role in establishing a tradition of excellence to inspire future TJ classes. My fellow class captains from all years and I are encouraged to know that alumni from TJHSST's early classes still feel a strong connection to the school.

As the captain for our class, I am writing to thank all of you for joining me on this journey of getting back together as a class and to let you know about a few more things that you can do to help.

1. Join our class group on Facebook. Invite your classmates to join too.

Some Facebook class groups are just starting while the leading class has 94% of its alumni. We are doing pretty well considering how new the group is, but there are still nearly half of you missing from the group. Please join our group so that you can take participate our discussion for Part 2...

See how our class is doing in the Rankings and Click the respective Link to Join Our Class Facebook Group or access our group directly here.

2. Tell me about the teacher who inspired you to reach for the stars. Then, tell me how you made your dreams come to life.

The Alumni Association is launching two awards at Alumni Day in October to celebrate some of the amazing people that make up our community and to recognize their incredible accomplishments in their years since TJ.

Teacher Hall of Fame. I am sure you remember your favorite teachers, so tell me about them and how they inspired you to do great things in this life.
Alumni STARS Award. All of you have gone on to making this world a better place, whether in public service, in transformational entrepreneurship/business, in research/academia, in science and technology, in the arts, and in athletics. The purpose is to celebrate all of our alumni success and inspire dozens of current TJ students to follow your lead and reach for the stars. [Alumni will vote for the most intriguing/interesting accomplishment that they want to learn more about. It is impossible to judge the "most awesomest" alum/accomplishment, so we are not.]

Post a comment about the cool things you've done (and things that your classmates have done) and the teachers who inspired you to do them on our class group on Facebook, and I will let you know more about the formal nomination and voting process in the coming weeks.

3. Come to Alumni Day on October 20.

Alumni Day promises to be an exciting event with the Teacher Hall of Fame and Alumni STARS awards. Several reunions are scheduled around October 20, so we may have record attendance. Though the event is at TJ, we are planning a webcast for folks who can't make it back to the area, so consider throwing a TJ party in your city for Saturday, October 20. We'll help you publicize the event to alumni in your area.

As a final note, I am currently working on reconciling the list of classmates who have profiles in the alumni directory with valid e-mail addresses. In the next few weeks, I will be sending you a link to this list, and I would be grateful if you could help me get it completely cleaned up. This is especially important for events and reunions. Believe it or not, our 20 year reunion is just two years away!

In the meantime, thanks for joining me in getting reconnected with our community, and I hope to see you at Alumni Day on October 20.

Warm Regards,
Beth Finn (befinn@gmail.com) and Ian Caldwell (ian.caldwell@gmail.com)
