Welcome To My "New" Newsletter!

Finally, a newsletter with text AND pictures! You are reading the very first newsletter of 2014. This year marks a new direction in my life and I am super excited to share it with you.

What's Next?

For the past 13 years I've been focusing a lot of my energy on Alzheimer's disease --- first with my mother's diagnosis and care, and then with the Alzheimer's Art Quilt Initiative. I know many of you threaded your needles and opened your wallets to support the AAQI's mission, and I thank you from the bottom of my heart!

del countdown

The Alzheimer's chapter of my life is now closing and I am looking forward to refocusing my energies.

Working two full-time jobs was just a little bit nuts. In 2013, for example, the AAQI reached it's million dollar goal and I taught for 24 different guilds and invented two quilting tools! That's a lot of good stuff packed into just one year!

I remember when I got my bifocals, the optometrist suggested the "no line" version, called transition lenses. Sounded good. I put them on for the first time and almost lost my lunch. Couldn't see a thing, plus they made me dizzy. The optician said, "Point your nose at what you want to see." That made all the difference in the world. With that advice I got used to my new glasses in about 6 minutes.

For some time now, my nose has been pointing in two different, and often competing, directions. As 2014 begins I am looking forward to pointing my nose at just one thing: making quilts and sharing what I've learned with you. OK, technically that's TWO things, but you get the idea.

The Four T's

I'm going to include a Tip, Trick, Tool, or Technique in every newsletter. To make this newsletter relevant for you, tell me where you're pointing your nose. What kind of quilts are you making? Are you having trouble with anything? Is there something special you'd like to learn? Hit reply and you'll be in my inbox.

On The Road Again

In January I'll be in California teaching for the Santa Clarita Valley Quilt Guild, the San Fernando Valley Quilt Association, and the Surfside Quilters Guild. Come and take a class with me. For information, visit: http://www.amisimms.com/2014.htm I'm hoping the weather here in Michigan will be just good enough so that I can catch my outbound flight, and bad enough to make everybody at home really jealous.

Until Next Time

May 2014 bring you everything you hope for and more!
Thanks for double-clicking,

Ami Simms
