Fantasy Masquerade Ball at Twelve Oaks

masquerade

Fri, Oct. 29, 9pm-midnight

$35 a person or $50 per couple. 18 and up only

The Fantasy Masquerade Ball at Twelve Oaks will feature a Costume Contest with secret judges. The Grand Prize is a trip to Kansas City, Mo, and includes roundtrip airfare, hotel, and event tickets for two. DJ WiiLL from Springfield, Mo will provide music for dancing. Heavy hors doevres will be served.

According to the website thebestmasquerademasks.com, masquerade balls started out in Italy and were parties for the upper classes and elite. "Party goers would dress in fine elegant ball gowns and use masquerade ball masks to hide their identity. ... they would be able to revel in any activities, which if they were known would be seen as taboo or uncouth," the site says.

Tickets are available online at www.ozarkartscouncil.org, by calling 870.391.3504, or visiting the OAC office at 115 West Rush next to the Lyric Theater on the Harrison Square. Tickets can also be purchased at the door the evening of the event (cash, check & credit card accepted).

and now, a PSA for our theater friends in Mountain Home

FUNDRAISER FOR ADOPTION COALITION
The mystery-comedy Exit Who? presented by the Twin Lakes Playhouse, is a benefit for the North Central Arkansas Adoption Coalition (NCAAC). In the play, Crane Hammond, a mystery writer from New York, and her secretary have rented a home in Vermont for a month where Crane plans to finish her novel. But they find out immediately that they are involved in intrigue, as the house is a drop-off point for a microdot containing plans for military installations which is to be picked up by a spy at midnight. The spy could be any number of people--the Vermont sheriff, the forgetful old neighbor, the rugged country cook--to name just a few. The women encounter many confusing and hilarious situations in trying to find the microdot as well as pinpointing the spy.

This fundraiser will be held on Thursday, November 4, at 7 pm at the Playhouse, 600 West 6th Street, Mountain Home. It is a play suitable for the entire family. Tickets are $12.00 and can be reserved by calling Deanna Suzie Evans at 870 449-2560.

The main purpose of the Coalition is to create an awareness in the community of all the children waiting to be adopted in the Department of Human Service who are waiting in foster care to find that “forever family.” The Coalition recently held a successful Adoption Picnic in Harrison, and has other activities planned to inform the public of this need. There are presently about 500 children in Arkansas DHS waiting to be adopted. For more information check their website at dhs.arkansas.gov/dcfs/heartgallery.
