"I know the lands are lit, with all the autumn blaze of Goldenrod." Helen Hunt Jackson

"Autumn, the year's last, loveliest smile." -William Cullen Bryant

I hope you are having a beautiful autumn. Things are a little crazy here on the farm with another deadline racing toward me - for edits on my third Rosey Corner book. I was too wordy and now have to cut 13,000 words. My sister had advice. Just chop out a whole chapter. That's sort of what I'm having to do, but I can't just take out a whole chunk without doing major damage to the story, so I'm trimming word by word. Sigh. I need to learn to write shorter. But I do so appreciate those of you who are ready to read my words, long and short.

Also, my mother's dementia is getting progressively worse. More of her memory is slipping away and now she rarely knows my name, but I still know hers. Those of you who have been down the same caretaker trail or are on it now know about those hard bumps along the dementia road. And each day we pray for the courage and strength to keep journeying the next mile!

But now for the good news!!

The Price is Right - Free!

You can download Words Spoken True for FREE. Free only lasts for a very limited time so check it out soon. This is the most romantic story I've written for a long time with a heart-throbbing hero and a beautiful heroine set in 1855 Louisville during a time of political unrest. Here are a couple of reviews. "Set against the volatile backdrop of political and civil unrest in 1850s Louisville, this exciting story of love and loyalty will hold readers in its grip until the very last page. Bookreporter "I've always enjoyed Ann Gabhart's books but Words Spoken True tops them all. With a unique and determined heroine, danger aplenty and sparks galore, Ann has written a delightful romance with the intriguing backdrop of the golden era of newspaper journalism." Rel Mollett Novel Reviews You can read an excerpt from the book on my website. Check it out at Amazon; Christianbook.com (Print book still a great price at Christianbook.com too); Barnes & Noble or other on-line booksellers. Remember, the free e-book offer doesn't last long, but even after the free disappears, the e-book price is reduced for a while. And feel free to share the free offer with your reading friends. (I must like writing free. LOL) Especially if you've already read the story and liked it.

Heart of Hollyhill

It's release day #2 for Orchard of Hope . It's out there again for readers, decked out in a new cover. Hope those of you who read Scent of Lilacs will be ready to find out what happens next in the second book of my Heart of Hollyhill series. A new family moves into Hollyhill and nothing will ever be quite the same as revival comes in different ways to the town. Check out Jocie's Hollyhill book of the Strange to see how things are going in Hollyhill. She might even have a giveaway sometime this month. And Revell Books is having a giveaway on the Revell Books Facebook page right now. You might win a copy of all their October releases including Orchard of Hope by leaving a comment there.

And the Winners Are -

PicMonkey Shaker Collage

Drumroll please! Here are the winners of my Christmas at Harmony Hill Giveaway Celebration. Donna V wins the Shaker hand ornament and her choice of one of my books. Sue B wins the 2nd prize of the quilt hanging and one of my books. Rachel L can't say she "never wins" anymore since she wins the Tea book, Melody Carlson's The Christmas Shoppe and one of my books. As an extra bonus, here's my "just because" winner. Peggy C will get her choice of one of my books. (I've sent e-mails to all the winners.)

Thank you all so much for taking part in my giveaway fun and for sharing your birthday stories with me. I shared a few of them forward on One Writer's Journal. In this very unscientific survey, I discovered surprise parties are very memorable especially on a 50th birthday, that grandkids are cute blowing out candles, and that almost everybody loves a birthday cake. I'll come up with a new giveaway next month, but first watch One Writer's Journal in the next couple of weeks for a chance to win Orchard of Hope.

Advice from an old farmer:

~Don't corner somethin' that you know is meaner 'n you.
~Most of the stuff that people worry about ain't never gonna happen anyway.
~Life is simpler when you plow around the stump.
~The biggest troublemaker you'll probably ever have to deal with watches you from the mirror every mornin'.
~Always drink upstream from the herd.
