RIPTA will detour Route 11 (Broad St.) on Sunday, August 26, 2012 in order to accommodate the Puerto Rican Parade. The detours will be in effect from 9:30am until 12:00pm. Click here for detour information.

RIPTA TO ACCOMMODATE ROCK N’ ROLL MARATHON

RIPTA will detour twenty-two bus routes in the Providence area on Sunday, August 19, 2012 in order to accommodate the Rock n’ Roll Marathon. The detours are in effect from the first trip of the day until noon; four routes will remain on detour until 4:00pm. Francis Street will be closed until 4:00pm for an outdoor post-race block party. KENNEDY PLAZA BATHROOMS CLOSED FOR RENOVATIONS

Restroom renovations are underway at the Kennedy Plaza Intermodal Transportation Center, One Kennedy Plaza, Providence, Rhode Island. RIPTA closed the public restrooms on Monday, August 13, 2012 to begin constructions. The bathrooms are scheduled to reopen on Sunday, September 30, 2012. RIPTA apologizes for the inconvenience.

The Kennedy Plaza restroom renovations project demonstrates RIPTA’s dedication to the enhancement of the passenger travel experience. Renovations will be completed by Tower Construction Corporation, Cranston, Rhode Island.

RIPTA’s Planning Department will be conducting Passenger Surveys starting Monday, August 20, 2012 through Wednesday, August 22, 2012 between 6 AM and 2 PM.

The following routes will be surveyed:

Route 60 (Providence/Newport)
Route 63 (63 Broadway / Middletown Shop)
Route 67 (Bellevue / Mansions)
Route 71 (Broad St /Pawtucket)
Route 72 (Weeden/Central Falls)
Route 73 (Fairlawn/CCRI)
Route 76 (Central Ave)
Route 77 (Benefit Broadway)
Route 78 (Beverage Hill/Newport Ave)
Route 79 (Columbus Ave)
Route 80 (Armistice Blvd)

Surveyors will be wearing badges as displayed here. Don’t worry – they’re not selling anything! The surveys they are conducting will provide RIPTA with important information on how we can better serve you. Once you complete the survey, you can either return the survey to the on-board surveyor, or deposit your completed survey into boxes at the Kennedy Plaza ticket window, in the Pawtucket Visitor’s Center waiting room or inside Newport’s Gateway Center.

Meet Annette, our August RIPTA Rider of the Month! Annette lives in Woonsocket and is a recent graduate of URI. Annette loves riding RIPTA because it helped her save money while commuting to school. ARE YOU A RIPTA RIDER? SHARE YOUR STORY WITH US AND YOU TOO COULD WIN!

RIPTA is now accepting submissions for its first social media video contest, the “RIPTA Rider Contest.”

The contest, which runs through March 31, 2013 asks riders to create a video describing their favorite RIPTA story or best reason to ride. Entries can address topics such as their favorite memory of riding on a RIPTA bus or trolley; what RIPTA means to you; and why someone should ride RIPTA.

RIPTA will pick nine (9) winning entries from the videos submitted.

Winners receive the following:
• The chance to tell their story and tell their stories in TV & Radio Commercials
• One annual RIPTA bus pass valid for travel on any RIPTA bus for 365 days from the date of issue
• One winner will get the chance to star in a RIPTA TV commercial

Once submitted, your video will then have to be approved by a RIPTA representative. Once approved by RIPTA, your video will be live for all to view on RIPTA’s Facebook page.

FREE ZOO ADMISSION ON SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 1ST

As a “thank you” to Providence residents whose tax money helps to support the Roger Williams Park Zoo, the first Saturday of every month is free to residents of the City of Providence only (not East or North Providence). Proof of residency (such as a driver’s license or a utility bill with your name and address printed on it) must be shown at the ticket window. Visit www.rwpzoo.org for more information.
