Building and Reinforcing Your Executive Brand

Your brand tells people who you, and what to expect from you whether at work or at home. It helps people decide whether to trust you, and what to trust you about. Effective executives, both women and men, proactively build their brand, to ensure that others think highly of them, and have the confidence that they can execute under specific circumstances, and even in situations where they have little connections and expertise. Indeed, your executive brand can limit or launch your success. This month, our panel of women leaders will talk about what they have done to build and reinforce their executive brand, and how they leverage that brand to build credibility, position themselves and their teams and organizations for success, and strategically manage their career development.

Deobrah Sampson: In Search of Freedom and Adventure, from Woman in a Man's World

Deborah Sampson Gannett, better known as Deborah Sampson, was an American woman who disguised as a man in order to serve in the Continental Army during the American Revolutionary War. She is part of a small number of women with a documented record of military combat experience in that war. She served 17 months in the army, as "Robert Shurtlieff" of Uxbridge, Massachusetts, was wounded in 1782 and honorably discharged at West Point, New York in 1783.
She was quoted as saying "I am indeed willing to acknowledge what I have done, an error and presumption... I swerved from the accustomed flowery path of female delicacy, to walk upon the heroic precipice of feminine perdition!

Don't worry when you are not recognized, but strive to be worthy of recognition. Abraham Lincoln
Abraham Lincoln was the 16th President of the United States, serving from March 1861 until his assassination in April 1865. Lincoln led the United States through its Civil War—its bloodiest war and its greatest moral, constitutional and political crisis. In so doing he preserved the Union, abolished slavery, strengthened the federal government and modernized the economy.
