The Lightness Tournament was a Great Success!

 KAT7890

The 1st Lightness Tournament was held on Labor Day weekend, at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds in Golden, Colorado.
We had an intimate supportive and enthusiastic group of participants from Colorado, Arizona, & Utah.
.

It was a huge success for a first time event.

We had 13 pass Level 1 Lightness, and

the highest overall score for Level 1 was a brilliant ride from a 9 year old Bria McGrath,

from Carbondale, on her Fjord.

Level 2 Lightness test had three riders pass, and Beth Beymer passed with BRILLIANCE!

The Alta Escuela and Doma Vaquera classes were well attended with both basic and freestyle levels ridden. The Games consisted of Spanish Walk class and Piaffe and Passage on Sunday.

The Saturday night Gala was Fantastic

with a delicious BBQ, and spectacular entertainment. Starting with the Garrocha Freestyle competition where the competitors displayed such grace and style! The four Super Kids from Utah performed a Garrocha Freestyle Exhibition, which they had choreographed themselves, that had us in awe. Beth Beymer and Christi Kipple performed a pas de deux that had us up on our feet clapping, while they rocked out on their matching Fjords to Gangnam style music!

Top of the evening was Katelyn Kent and her beautiful white gelding, Fable, who gave us a playful and appreciative demonstration of natural horsemanship and lightness, interacting and riding without bridle or saddle.

The organization and the timing of the classes was really well done.
Having vendors who could help the riders and spectators out during the day was perfect.

Bill and Diane, from the Iberian Connection, helped by educating and helping with riding attire and tack all week-end. There was a lot of education and further understanding of what attire and tack was appropriate for the different classes and disciplines.

Overall, the inclusive attitudes were contagious and most everyone chipped in when they could, from the announcer to the farrier, the Super Kids from Utah, to the families, at sometime during the weekend; even if it was just to hold a horse if needed.
Despite the stress of showing, lack of sleep, constant challenges, aches and pains, we heard over and over what a great group we had, mutually supportive and having fun.

A fabulous experience!!
We look forward to next year.
