Andrew Murphy

It's that time of year again. Our Executive Director, Scott, and Director of Programming, Andrew, will be making the voyage to Berlinale (Berlin International Film Festival). As always, they will be bringing back some real gems to the Toronto and Ottawa Festivals.

But that's not all. This year, Andrew was asked to join the prestigious Teddy Awards Jury at the Berlinale where he will be lending his cinematic expertise to the selection process. Knock 'em dead!

The TEDDY AWARD – the most outstanding queer film prize in the world – is a socially engaged, political honour presented to films and people who communicate queer themes on a broad social platform, thereby contributing to tolerance, acceptance, solidarity and equality in society.

A true Canadian iconoclast, acclaimed transgender country/electro-pop artist Rae Spoon revisits the stretches of rural Alberta that once constituted “home” and confronts memories of growing up queer in an abusive, evangelical household. Part travelogue, part character study, Chelsea McMullan’s singular film unfolds in coffee shops, bus stations, bars and recreation centres, with her camera finding odd angles from which to examine these communities that have arisen in the middle of nowhere.

Followed by a performance and Q+A by Rae Spoon
