A New Year Begins!

Hello Amazing Women!

So, how's the new year treating you so far? I took a lot of time in January to reflect on 2013 and to make plans for the year ahead. I have actually been spending more time drawing in a brand new sketchbook and it feels so great! While drawing I get ideas for the new meditative drawing class I am teaching. (The last time I taught it I was still living in Oregon) It feels so wonderful to be able to connect visually with what lies ahead of me and then plan to share it with others. This time, my focus if for the class to be for women, and I will integrate the knowledge I have gained from the advanced Energetics of Creativity couse I took with Tami Lynn Kent at the end of September 2013.

I have also planned a Wild Feminine Art Class for mothers based on Tami's book, Wild Feminine. Three mothers joined me for eight weeks at the end of last year in a "tester" class and now I am really excited to bring this offering to all of you. However, my home studio space is not exaclty comfy and cozy yet..I have some repair work to do before I can officially invite the outside world in. My goal is to have the studio complete by April and the Wild Feminine Class will be offered in the spring.

So if you want to start tapping into the power of your amazing creative self, please come join me at the North Shore Yoga Studio for the Intro to Meditative Drawing class at the end of February or the 4 week series in March. Before you know it, spring will be here, ready to blossom and share all of the winter's hard work (I will be sanding and painting and scraping floors and walls, I assure you!) I cannot wait!

With Blessings,
Carla

Drawing, like yoga or meditation, is another means to connecting to oneself and the world around you. In this class we will explore the creative capacity and intuitive nature your body contains in your core pelvic space. In a calm and nurturing environment, we will relax and ground ourselves through meditation and then express what comes to our mind while drawing a physical object. After a guided drawing exercise there will be time to use other materials to either continue with drawing from observation or to follow your own direction. No previous art or meditation experience is necessary, just a desire to mindfully connect through art. All materials will be provided.

Listening HeArt

"The first duty of love is to listen."
Paul Tillich

"I am seeking, I am striving, I am in it with all my heart"
Vincent Van Gogh

I believe winter calls on us to listen deeply; nature may be still, covered in blanket of cold and snow. We spend more time inside; and inside of ourselves. I have found as a parent that if I do not take care of my own needs, it makes it harder to nurture my family members and others whom I love. Often when I am drawing, it is a time of releasing whatever has built up over the day, giving new thoughts a chance to pop up. Drawing can be a form of listening and can help bring us closer to our heart's whisperings, needs and desires.

Draw it Out

Word!

Do you have a word you would like to carry with you, into your heart for the year? I have just begun this practice this year...it is not a new one...I have found many people have done this after personal reflection, and then created a piece of art to carry the intention further. It is wonderful to have that visual reminder, similar to a vision board, to accompany the times when you want to take a step back and remind yourself what you wish to call in to your life.

What word is calling out to you right now? It is not too late to find some magazines, cut out the letters and see what images come with it. This exercise is powerful no matter when you do it!
