Casey

It was difficult for us to look at this mare two months ago when we rescued her from a ranch in Lincoln. She couldn't have looked more pitiful in her malnourished condition.

Dr. Macon outlined a plan to help her make a comeback and as we implemented it, we hoped Casey had the strength to fight back.

Along with starting her gradual re-feeding program, we knocked out her intestinal parasites. Her behavior immediately brightened as she settled into her new surroundings and the benefits of good nutrition.

Next on the plan was to have her teeth floated so her food wasn't falling out of her mouth but instead went down the hatch to where it was needed most.

The result is a stunning blood bay colored Arabian mare with a kind eye and wonderful ground manners. In fact, all the animals that we've rescued in March have made a remarkable recovery from their long-term neglect. They are looking for a place to call home. Adoptable Animals

Henrietta is one of three animals removed from a Loomis residence.

Henrietta

Three animals were rescued on Monday from the Loomis residence where HSSF Humane Officers seized 76 animals including, goats, sheep, pigs and dogs in July.

The hen -- now named Henrietta -- arrived at her foster home and devoured the chicken scratch we put in front of her.

Next morning, she thanked us with a lovely brown egg. You're welcome Henrietta - we'd do it all over again - for the animals.

ASPCA Awards HSSF $10,000 Grant

To help HSSF fight animal cruelty, the ASPCA awarded us $10,000 in grant funds for our work in the Loomis seizure in July 2011.

With the costs associated with rescuing, rehabilitating and re-homing abused and neglected animals, it's important that we have sufficient funding available to carry out our mission.

In addition, HSSF humane officers spend hundreds of hours each month—in the field, preparing reports for prosecution, and staying abreast of current laws and procedures. These activities support animal welfare and benefit the public at no expense to taxpayers.

We are honored that a national organization like ASPCA has recognized our work. TOGETHER, we are their voice!!

THANK YOU ASPCA!!
