Hello!

We’ve almost reached the end of another busy year and we’ve got a lot to report here at Marion City Band! 2013 has seen a number of appearances by the bands at local and interstate events. In particular, the band’s inaugural Charity Concert (held in support of the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia) was a major highlight for the band with the opportunity to work with well-known local musicians, Charmaine Jones and Mike Bevan.

Marion and Warriparinga Brass have been flat out with their usual Christmas commitments. By the end of this year, the bands will have participated in no less than six Christmas pageants! Heading into the new year, our members are looking forward to their trip to Brisbane to participate in the 2014 Yamaha National Band Championships. Following the Christmas break-up, band members will spend the Australia Day long weekend at band camp, another highlight of our banding year.

We hope that you enjoy this edition of our e-newsletter. You can send any feedback to mcbsocialmedia@gmail.com .

Enjoy!

ANZAC Girls

"Anzac Girls" is a six part ABC miniseries to be released in 2014 which tells the true story of five young military nurses from Australia and New Zealand who experienced horror, heartbreak and triumph caring for the soldiers at Gallipoli and the Western Front.

On the 6th of August, eight of our bandies attended a film set on a seaside farm at Myponga that had been transformed into a field hospital in Egypt in high summer.

The band appeared in a scene where they marched up a hill while playing at the head of a column of soldiers leaving the hospital to return to the front.

On the 11th of September the band was invited back to appear in another scene, filmed this time at Annesley College at Wayville which was being used as a French village on Armistice Day.The band played the French National Anthem and the Blue Danube while the cast partied at the end of hostilities.

Both days were long and hard with the guys needing to go through all the rigmarole of makeup, haircuts and costuming and then repeat the scenes over and over again!

Chris McDonald, Josh Bennier, Jacob Bain, Damian Dorian and Dylan O’Sullivan worked both days with Xavier Dennis and Andreas Pettifer joining them in Egypt and Harry Ollerenshaw and Jim Morris joining them in France. They were ably supported by Darren McDonald who supervised both sessions and drove the bus etc.

Great job guys. We can't wait to see you on the screen in 2014!!!

Heaven Brass

Marion City Band is proud to announce the formation of ‘Heaven Brass’ effective from January, 2014. With a number of individuals graduating from the Learner’s Classes this year, Heaven Brass has been formed with a view to bridging the gap between the Learner’s Class and Warriparinga Brass. The band was named after long-term members of Marion City Band, Bernice and Max Heaven. This brings the total number of ensembles under the Marion City Band Inc. umbrella to five.
