Interview in the Free Houston Press by Meghan Hendley-Lopez
Shortly before her first baby was born Meghan Hendley-Lopez interviewed me for the Free Houston Press. Meghan is a very dedicated reporter! You can find the written interview at the link below.
I am working on some new large scale paintings and drawings of flowers and nests. These pieces are an extension of my "Personal Fetish" series and reflect my surroundings at my home and studio, my garden and collections of objects. Alongside of the large scale paintings I will be exhibiting some smaller scale paintings and drawings and some of the photographs of the objects that I use to paint and draw from. The drawings and paintings will be 18 x 12" up to approximately 48 x 36". The photographs will be printed 24 x 36" or larger.
Some of these new works will be at French and Michigan Gallery in San Antonio by late March and others will be in my solo exhibit in June/July at Gallery Jatad in Houston. The small floral painting above will be in the Art For Hope Auction benefitting Bering Omega Community Services at Wade Wilson Art on April 23, 2014.
The Louisiana Portrait Project
Last summer I started working on a plan for a long term project which will require two years of research: collecting images and audio recordings to create visual and audio pieces for a very large body of work. The goal of the project is to create a portrait of Louisiana through its peoples and land. The scope of the project will include 50+ smaller portraits of people from Louisiana, 10+ large scale portraits, a large audio installation, a large paper room with drawings covering the walls and some large scale landscapes.
The proper kick-off for this project will be at the end of March 2014 when I unveil the first two small portraits and a corresponding recording, on a public grant platform.
The 50+ 18 x 12" portraits will be similar to the portrait that I painted of artist and printmaker Ron Adams below.
