Graduation 2012

On December 8th, Colegio Cristiano Manto de Gracia celebrated its second preschool graduation, this year for 27 children.
The activity started with a march from the local high school and finished with each of the kids getting their diploma. They sang "This little light of mine" both in Spanish and English.
Preregistration was December 11th. Next year fourth grade will be added.

Marching from the high school to our school

This year we saw the beginning of our dream of having a lending library - something that is not often seen in Nicaragua. We know that reading is a big part of education and a love of reading happens if kids have books in their hands.
Each week, the kids swapped their books for different ones and when we gathered them up at the end of the year, 100% were returned.
We are looking forward to getting many more books and eventually want to make the library available to other schools and kids.

"Lets draw Christmas" activity in December

This year we also kicked off the childrens Bible club "GraceKids" or "Niños de Gracia". It is a kid friendly meeting for the children of the barrio.
We've had 3 meetings and in each one, they have heard the message of Christ from a grace perspective.

Spelling bee finalists before competition

Spelling bee finalists - the winner is Reyna on the far right

We had our first spelling bee finals, the winner being third grader Reyna Mendoza. She won a backpack and the other finalists a nice notebook. They all have a better idea of what to expect next year.

A few other items:
  1. We will be in the USA from mid December through mid January. If you would like us to share with your church or missions group, please let us know.
  2. We are always looking for those long term teachers/missionaries to work with us in the school and other projects.

Jim and Brenda 2012

And finally, a non Nicaraguan missionary I would like to present to you all.
Jim and Brenda Puhr have been missionaries in since 1982, having served in Costa Rica, Moscow, Russia and since 1997 in Budapest, Hungary.
They work with key national leaders in the former Communist Countries of Eastern Europe to help them start churches in cities, towns and villages that have no evangelical church in them.
Living in Budapest gives a base in a country that is within 250 miles of eleven different countries.
If you want more information on the Puhrs, contact them at jimpuhr@gmail.com
