Coinciding with the opening days of Manifesta 9, Latitudes will launch the publication at the border marker which represents the apex of the former Neutral Moresnet-Amikejo at Vaalserberg. This tripoint (drielandenpunt) that joins the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany, was once a four-border-point before Neutral Moresnet was absorbed in Belgium.
The publication accompanies the year-long cycle of four exhibitions that took place at the Laboratorio 987, the project space of MUSAC, León, thoughout 2011. (+ info...)

The lecture "The curatorial contract: analogies and case studies" draws from popular culture and legal terminology to help define some of the ethical and professional codes at work between artists and curators. Through the editorial project 'The Last Newspaper' developed by Latitudes at the New Museum in 2010, the presentation will speculate on this relationship and how it dialogues with the public-as-participant.

In response to Midway Contemporary Art Library’s holdings of museum catalogues and from publishing houses in Barcelona, Latitudes assembled a counter-accession of approximately 50 self- and micro-published books and paper editions by artists, designers, curators, or publishing initiatives produced in Catalonia since 2005.
The publications were displayed at Midway throughout before being absorbed into the library holdings. Alongside this collection supplementation, Barcelona-based artists Mariona Moncunill, Gabriel Pericàs, Mireia C. Saladrigues and Oriol Vilanova were invited to intervene in the library through a series of bookmarks which will be inserted into undisclosed publications throughout the library for unsuspecting readers to encounter. About Latitudes
Latitudes is an independent curatorial office initiated in April 2005 by Max Andrews and Mariana Cánepa Luna, that works in an international context from and in Barcelona, Spain. We initiate and develop contemporary art projects in association with institutions and collaborate with artists in productions encompassing a range of organisational forms and scales: genres of display and presentation; editorial practice and publication; forms of assembly, hosting and programming; as well as theoretical and interpretative contexts.
