Fuchsia denticulata provides tricolored tubular blooms perfect for the shade garden.

The CHN e-newsletter is our show of gratitude to the loyal market customers at our many events around the Central Coast. It will serve as a site for seasonal updates, "plant of the month" specials, the "ask a nurseryman" section, links to our partners, and a whole lot more. New for 2013 will be a "project" page which offers ideas for weekend garden activities, and more in-depth coverage of some of our recent landscape installations. The e-newsletter is a way to stay connected with our thriving and knowledgeable garden community. Please send us your comments on how to make this e-newsletter more useful to all, and don't forget to pass along the link to a friend!

Happy Planting,
Nathan Krupa (owner/grower)

Tis the season!! A cold weather front is coming into the Central Coast region, stating Tuesday night and ending on Friday. Very cold air will be moving down from Alaska, with little cloud cover expected. Temperatures could drop into the mid- 20's, especially in the inland valleys and at elevation. Please remember to protect your frost sensitive plants!! Make sure they are well irrigated to protect the root zone, and cover and/or douse the leaves with water before bed to protect the aboveground portions. The freeze warning put out by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) can be reached here. The NOAA website is a great place for accurate weather predictions and warnings for gardeners all around the country.

PLANT OF THE MONTH

Protea family member Grevillea Red Hooks is punctuated by Leucadendron Jester in this wreath, which is also excellent dried.

Holiday Wreaths

What better a way to celebrate the holiday season than with nature? As always, our December Plant of the Month features our handcrafted, local, durable, scented (in many instances), and truly unique winter wreaths. This months markets feature holiday wreaths made from Eucalyptus, California Bay, European Bay, Pine, Monterey Cypress, Protea, and a few surprises down the line. The are decorated with local berries and cones, and will surely bring the yule tide feeling from the forest right into the home!! As always, our wreaths are crafted with a redwood base to permit a dipping in water and extension of the green cycle. Come early for the best selection!!
A BIG Thank You goes out to our customers who have taken advantage of our annual "free tree trimming" in support of the cause. Please continue to let us know if you, or any acquaintances, have any tree work on the calendar. Of course, free wreaths are retuned for your kindness!!
