Cold may be persisting but here at BTS we're in spring mode and blooming every day!

BTS receives LMCC grant:

Between the Seas has received a grant from the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council to implement 4x4: New York meets the Med, a new program that will promote contemporary playwriting from the Mediterranean region. Four Mediterranean playwrights will be paired up with four American directors for a weekend of discussions and readings that will examine the new trends in the region's dramaturgy and the challenges and opportunities of cross cultural creation between the Mediterranean and the USA. More information on the participating partners, plays and directors soon!

This year's program:

We received a great amount of interesting, high quality submissions for Between the Seas 2014. We are currently reviewing the applications and we will start announcing this year's program later this Spring.

We're growing!

Between the Seas officially welcomes Flavia Zaganelli as our new Programming Assistant. Flavia holds a Master's degree in Innovation and Organization of Culture and the Arts at the University of Bologna. Since 2006 she has been working and collaborating with many festivals and cultural institutions in Italy and abroad, such as the international Dancewoods Festival, and Esibisco, a cultural organization that works towards social and cultural innovation. Recently she started to approach performing arts also as a performer and she is studying contemporary dance and theater. The ensemble presents a wide and unique range of mixed classical and contemporary compositions. With this extensive repertoire and a playful, lively presence on stage, En Chordais has toured throughout the world, receiving enthusiastic critical acclaim. The ensemble celebrates the Byzantine musical heritage, Greek folk music, the works of major Mediterranean composers, as well as compositions by its members and a creative continuation of this great heritage. Of particular importance in the repertoire is the application of Kyriakos Kalaitzidis' (En Chordais' artistic director) research findings in manuscript codices from the 15th-19th century, which are preserved in several historical libraries of Europe.
