Water: Our Lifeline to Survival

BC

This month, we would like to celebrate and direct our attention to water; one of the most crucial elements for our survival. Water effects every living being on this Earth. Without it we wouldn't be able to survive. The health of our water directly relates to the health of our families, communities, economy and surroundings. Here in the Niagara Region we have the good fortune of being surrounded by fresh water in the Great Lakes, Niagara river, various small lakes, canals, ponds, rivers and streams. At times, we take these blessings for granted. Today we'd like to help direct your attention back to all things water, remind you of the importance of it, revere it and enjoy it.

water

After oxygen, water is the most the essential component to life. It makes up about two thirds of our body weight and is essential for every bodily function and organ.

Are you looking to increase your daily intake of water? Try adding creative flavours, veggies or fruits to your glass to make it more interesting.

Watermelon Sage Water

Watermelon Sage Infused Water

6-8 Sage Leaves (clean)
1 C Watermelon (chunks)
1/4 C Organic or Wild Blueberries (I used frozen)
1 tsp Natural Sweetener (optional, maple syrup, honey or agave would work well)
8 – 10 C Water
Ice Cubes

What to do:

Muddle sage leaves with the end of a wooden spoon in a pitcher to bruise the leaves
Add 1/4 - 1/2 C watermelon and muddle in pitcher with sage
Add remaining watermelon chunks
Fill pitcher with pure filtered water to 3/4 full
Add sweetener (if using), blueberries and top with ice cubes
Stir & allow flavours to merge together before serving
If you want to make it super sparkly, you could add some soda water or organic mineral water instead of plain ol’ H20 to make it a sparkling drink
