JCSU Student Recognized at Microsoft Minority Student Day
Freshman Andronica Klaas, a Computer Science/Information Systems major from South Africa, was recently recognized at Microsoft’s Minority Student Day. Andronica attended the March 14th event with a group of eleven JCSU students during Spring Break. JCSU students were selected to attend the event along with other high school and college students in the Charlotte region. Andronica was awarded a shadowing opportunity with Microsoft-Charlotte for her essay providing insights to the new CEO on positioning Microsoft as a devices and services company, providing a strategy for industry leadership, and making recommendations on devices and applications.
In support of Microsoft’s commitments to enabling broad access to technology, Minority Student Day is hosted annually to: build and maintain relationships with students from minority and under-represented populations; expose students to diversity at Microsoft; in various professions; and to provide an opportunity for students to learn about emerging technologies being developed at Microsoft. Please join the STEM College in congratulating Andronica.

50th ANNIVERSARY OF CIVIL RIGHTS MARCH IN CHARLOTTE
March 2014 marks the 50th anniversary of the civil rights march in Charlotte in which many Johnson C. Smith students and faculty participated. Hundreds participated in the petition drive, march to the post office, and rally at Johnson C. Smith for demands that became the Civil Rights Act of 1964. The event was organized by Davidson College students and included participation from several colleges throughout the Piedmont section of the state.

On Saturday March 29 Davidson College is hosting a campus reunion of those march participants to commemorate the event and to reflect on the civil rights straggle, then and now. A panel discussion at the Alvarez Student Union at 3 pm will be followed by a 5 pm reception and then dinner at the Brickhouse restaurant in Davidson.

For any questions, contact Rebekah Ayscue in the Davidson Alumni office at 704-894-2450 or reayscue@davidson.edu.
