With the summer over and school finally in session, I thought it would be fun to select some photographs which will remind us of the fun summer days we had, the beginning of school and the cool autumn days ahead.
Merilyn Mollard: Newport Beach
High and Dry
Merilyn Mollard enhances her black and white photographs with photographic oil paints to create romantic, idealized images of iconic Newport Beach scenes.
Rather than just recapturing the view as originally seen through the camera's lens, this process allows the artist the creative expression to alter each photograph into a unique image. While not limited, she has kept her editions very small because of the tedious hand coloring that is involved.

Cara Barer: Books and Maps
Pathfinder
Elegy
Some of Cara Barer's images happen by chance and others through purposeful experimentation. A random encounter with the Yellow Pages was the primary inspiration for her stunning collection of photographs.
Cara realized that after soaking books in a tub of water for a few hours, they took on a new shape, appearance and purpose.
I have long been fascinated with the book creations that Cara has made and it's only fitting that I bring them to your attention once again with the beginning of school.
